Not quite as lucky

I fished last Tuesday. Connetquot on Long Island. What a place. At one point I stopped fishing and sat on one of the platforms watching brook trout do their mating dance, turning sideways and fanning the sand and gravel streambed. Amazing. One rainbow above the hatchery tried to mimic his bigger steelhead cousins - at least that's how it seemed in my little 3wt rod. Man - I had a ball.

Lessee - time before that was August on the upper East Branch of the Delaware with some friends. Most of the afternoon was rained out, but we did manage a bit of early evening fishing at the top of a big bend pool. The day was more about seeing friends than fishing, however. As always - I remember the picnic table stories far better than the fishing (well - except that one feisty brownie).

I have to go back to late June to find the 2nd-to-last time I got out fishing. I don't even remember where it was, or if I got a fish. My new-year's-resolution of keeping a fishing diary has apparently been a total flop. Every year its the same - it's keep a diary, tie up some leaders, and fill my boxes. At least this year I had plenty of flies to fish with.

I can't complain. I have a job, a house, a great family, and trout rivers all around. Life is good.

So - you think with all the time Martin spends fishing and travelling - he would have come over to fish with his pal Bob. But no ....
