5. Bandit Leach - Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures Tom Melvin presents a staple Alaska pattern designed to imitate baitfish for rainbow, char, and grayling. This pattern is a staple in his box for Alaska and Kamchatka Yellow Dog Hosted Trips. Take a look as Tom spins up the design and details for this fly pattern. There are many great fly patterns on the market today that have a reputation for constantly producing and enticing some of the pickiest fish in the world. Throughout our years of travel and fishing all over the world we’ve nailed down patterns we can trust and depend on. Some of these patterns are very well known and some are under the radar, but they all have one thing in common – the ability to reliably catch fish. Here at Yellow Dog, we have quite a few anglers that prefer to tie their own patterns in anticipation of the next big trip. One of our main jobs is to make sure that each and every angler we work with is as well prepared as possible for that next big trip, we are confident in that having a couple of these patterns in your box will make a huge difference. For more information or questions please contact Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures office for more information on fishing Alaska and Kamchatka! - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

6. Emergence Caddis Larva - The Emergence Caddis Larva is one of my favorite caddis larva patterns to tie and fish. It closely resembles John Barr's Uncased Caddis but with a few different materials and tying techniques. I am tying this pattern on an Allen Fly Fishing N202 hook. This particular hook is a down-eye, 3X-long, standard wire, slightly humped nymph /dry fly hook. It works great for caddis and terrestrial nymph and dry fly patterns. Check them out by visiting www.allenflyfishing.com This particular caddis larva pattern is tied to imitate an uncased caddis larva beginning its emergence stage of its life-cycle. I generally fish this pattern as my first fly in a tandem nymph rigging set-up between late spring and early fall. The fly gives off a lot of UV light qualities which attracts fish. The UV Fly Finish Coating provides the fly with a lot of depth. Below is a quick reference on what size brass bead to use relative to the size hook you're tying on. Allen Fly Fishing Hook Brass or Tungsten Bead Size 12 1/9" (2.8mm) Size 14 1/10" (2.4mm) Size 16 1/10" (2.4mm) To view RK's Fly Design complete fly collection Visit www.facebook.com/RKsFlyDesign - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

7. Scudmarine Steelhead Nymph Pattern - Learn to tie a very effective steelhead nymph pattern. It may not be well known that pink scuds catch steelhead like crazy, but it's true. I've developed this pattern over the past four years and I'm very confident in it when fly fishing for steelhead. It is easily one of my top three steelhead nymphs. It is easy to tie, looks good in your box, and catches fish. Devin Olsen from Fly Fishing Team USA turned me on to fishing pink scuds for steelhead. He is one of the world's best fly fisherman and you can check out his blog http://www.tacticalflyfisherman.com/ for more great tips. The intro of large steelhead all caught nymphing is a fun twist that I decided to add to my last few videos. Leave a comment and let us know what you think! Thanks for watching! We use this technique on all sorts of rivers including the Methow, Wenatchee, Klickitat, Deschutes, John Day, Grande Ronde, and many more. It is very effective and similar to the fly fishing tactics used for trout. In this video, a Switch Rod and a Wulff Ambush Line was used. 8. Iron Blue Dun - Most dry fly anglers will know this particular fly. The iron blue dun. It’s a small may fly that can appear throughout the year. It’s one of the very few patterns that can be fished in the early spring or late autumn. There have even been reports of this fly hatching in the winter. So I good all-round fly one could say. 9. Czech Quill Body Nymph - Fly Tying with Hans - Czech Quill Body Nymph. Here is a play on a thread bodied nymph with a hot spot. Most eastern European nymph patterns have hot spot to attract fish to strike the fly. This is a concept worth exploring. Try adding the hot spot while keeping the overall fly slender. These patterns are producing well on Rapid Creek in a two fly rig. I typically fish this fly above a jig fly. - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher
