2. Hot Spot Spider (soft hackle) - Featured in this fly tying tutorial is the Hot Spot Spider, a slight variation of the classic that so many North Country flies rotate around. Spiders, also commonly referred to as soft hackles, typically consist of thin silk thread bodies and sparse amounts of hackle from varying game birds. This pattern adds a modern material, Glo-Brite, for a hot spot by its head. In this tutorial, I also show how to properly prepare a hackle for spider and soft hackle patterns. The hook used in this tutorial is one of my favorite wet fly / nymph hooks, the W502BL from Allen Fly Fishing. With a sproat bend and 2x heavy, this classic looking nymph hook is perfect for spiders and soft hackles. You can find the hook at the following link: http://www.allenflyfishing.com/w502bl-wet-fly-nymph-barbless/ Thanks for viewing this fly tying tutorial, feel free to leave comments & questions directly on this YouTube page, or you can email me: tcammisa@gmail.com - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

3. Soft Hackle Pheasant Tail - The Soft Hackle Pheasant Tail is my favorite fly! It can be fished on tailwater and freestone rivers. The Soft Hackle Pheasant Tail imitates a variety of insects. Most people would say that it is a Mayfly Nymph, but it also imitates a small stonefly as well. The Soft Hackle Pheasant Tail is primarily a late spring and summer fly. This is when the mayflies are most active. It can be fished in a smaller size year around, even in the winter. - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

4. Pearl and Partridge Soft Hackle - A fly tying video showing how to tie a Pearl and Partridge. This Soft Hackle is simple to tie and very effective for trout. I use this light colored nymph pattern during the big mayfly hatches in the Summer months. This soft hackle can also be tied smaller to imitate most baetis mayflies. Capt Matt is a fly fishing guide in Aspen, CO as spends his time floating the Roaring Fork and Colorado Rivers. The trout fishing is world class and the setting can't be beat. if you would like to take a guided float trip on Colorado's greatest rivers, go to www.riplips.com for information and booking. - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

5. Beiss - This is a beautiful fly originally designed by Ulf Sill that will entice any salmon or trout with it's amazing movement in even the softest current. Combine that with a little Salar Alta gold sparkle and good balance because of the cone and brass 6mm tube and you have a amazing pattern. This pattern has worked really well for me on Atlantic Salmon and Sea-trout. But I'll bet big trout will love it too! Maybe next time the river is low and clear I will swing it trough the pool for some Steelhead! or if I'm lucky try it on the Dechutes river! The thing that makes it so special is the Templedog wing, the softest material you can find! much softer then arctic fox. You could use Finn raccoon as a substitute. Good luck tying and thanks for watching! PLEASE SUBSCRIBE IF YOU LIKE MY VIDEO'S! - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

6. Hans' Spring Soft Hackle - Tying with Hans - Hans' Spring Soft Hackle. This easy to tie soft hackle pattern takes early season trout feeding on midges or emerging baetis mayflies. The purple thorax seems to be a trigger to trout. This fly can be fished deep behind a nymph, on the swing, or as a dropper a few inches behind a dry fly. Happy Tying. - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

7. Partridge and Orange Soft Hackle - During this demonstration, I vary the Partridge & Orange soft hackle a tad by substituting the partridge feather with one found on the back (versus the neck). This feather is a darker one, which I believe contrasts well with the bright orange body. The Partridge & Orange soft hackle is effective as an October caddis, sulfur nymph/emerger, and steelhead attractor. Thanks for viewing this video, and if you have any questions or comments, feel free to leave them on this YouTube page or email me: tcammisa@gmail.com - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

8. Soft Hackle Glass Emerger - The Soft Hackle Glass Emerger is a quick/ easy tie and very effective mayfly emerger pattern. I generally fish this fly within the surface film or on the swing. The iridescent glass bead gives the illusion of an air bubble of an emerging fly and the fluoro fibre wing has an excellent UV light quality. I also tie this pattern with a light cahill thread to mimic a PMD or Light Cahill, as well as an olive brown thread to mimic a Blue Winged Olive. Tie some of them up and see for yourself. The Soft Hackle Glass Emerger is tied on an AFF N304 (straight-eye, 2x - short, reversed bend hook). This is my favorite hook that Allen Fly Fishing produces. It's thin wire and perfect reversed bend makes it a superior emerger hook. Check out their full line of hooks and beads by visiting www.allenflyfishing.com. 9. Soft Hackled Pheasant Tail Nymph - This is a soft hackled hot spot version of the Pheasant Tail Nymph. The addition of the soft hackle adds movement to the fly and allow it to be fished on the swing as well as dead drifted. The hot spot is optional but it definitely adds a trigger to the fly. Great in sizes 12-20. - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

10. Peacock and Partridge - A fly tying video showing how to tie a Soft Hackle Nymph with Peacock and Partridge. I do not believe I am the first to tie this pattern, nor will I be the last. This combination of feathers is timeless and trout will always want to bite this nymph. Soft hackle flies are quite simple to tie and seem to be effective around the world. Soft hackle nymphs have made a come back in the waters of the Colorado Rockies. If you have ever considered fishing near Aspen, CO this is the year. Contact Capt Matt at www.riplips.com for information about guided float trips on the Roaring Fork and Colorado Rivers. - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher
