3. Fluttering Little Black Stonefly - Hans Stephenson of Dakota Angler & Outfitter ties a Fluttering Black Stonefly. The CDC split winging technique gives the appearance of the fluttering wing pairs of stoneflies. While the the fly in this video was tied to match the Early Black Stoneflies, the coloration can be adapted to other stonefly species. This style of fly is an excellent imitation of fluttering yellow sally stoneflies, when tied with a yellow body, red egg sack, and light yellow or cream colored CDC. For the early little black stoneflies, tie this pattern in size 14-18. A strong fine diameter thread make a big difference when tying this pattern. Threads such as Tiemco's 16/0 or Veevus 14/0-16/0 are strong and build very little bulk. Using these threads on this pattern allow the tier to maintain a slender profile. - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

4. Juvenile Stonefly Nymph - A fly tying video showing how to tie an Juvenile Stonefly. This nymph pattern is meant to imitate a stonefly that is one year old and about half of its eventual size at maturity. Stoneflies live in the river beneath the rocks for two years before hatching into a flying adult. This easy Stonefly Pattern is tied just like a big Pheasant Tail Nymph on a long curved hook, it can be tied bigger or smaller and with many different colors of pheasant. Fly fishing on the West Slope of the Colorado Rockies is best with a stonefly on the end of your line. If you would like to book an incredible fly fishing vacation, consider fishing near Aspen, CO and see what great trout fishing can be. 5. Snow Fly - How to tie a Snow Fly ~ Winter Stone. This Little Black Winter Stonefly is a perfect imitation of a juvenile stonefly hatched the Summer before. I call this pattern a Snow Fly and I use it on the river when the snow flies. This Stonefly Pattern is relatively smaller than most, but all stoneflies have to be this small at some point. I like to use a size #16 or #14 hook and sometimes I will use a little bit of flash material. The Roaring Fork River in Colorado is full of Little Black Stoneflies and the fish seek them out. If you would like to catch willing trout, consider taking a fishing vacation to Aspen or near by. You will have a great time, the fishing is as good as it gets! Go to riplips.com for information and booking. - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

6. Simple Stonefly Pattern - A Simple Stonefly Pattern so effective and easy to tie, it should be illegal. This fly is very realistic and because Stonefly Nymphs are in the river year round, trout bite them on sight. I like to tie it with a #8 or #6 hook with a bent shank. This nymph pattern is weighted with lead wire and I use variegated spandex rubber for the tail, legs and antenna. Tying stoneflies is only half the story. My customers catch many big fish with stonefly nymphs like this one every day. If you would like to see just how well this realistic, simple stonefly pattern works for the trout in Colorado, go to http://www.riplips.com for information and booking. 7. Biot Stonefly Nymph - In this fly tying tutorial, I discuss the procedures and techniques to tie the Biot Stonefly Nymph, while also talking briefly about background information related to stoneflies. These bugs can be borderline heavenly from a fly fishing perspective, and the nymphs are especially important being that they can be fished throughout most of the year. The fly in this tutorial is a mix of a couple: Scott Sanchez's "Biot Stone" and Curtis Fry's "Twitchy Chicken Stonefly." By combining key elements of both, the Biot Stonefly Nymph is a great representation that is easy to tie and effective to fish. Featured in this fly tying tutorial are the N202 hooks by Allen Fly Fishing. These hooks have a great bend that represents the stonefly well. Please be sure to check out those hooks, and the many others they carry, at the following link: http://www.allenflyfishing.com/n202-nymph-dry-fly/ The hen hackle used in this video is from Clearwater Hackle. The piece that the feather came from is loaded with all types of feathers, being that it includes both the cape and saddle. I encourage you to check those out at the following link: http://www.clearwaterhackle.com/mature-hens/ Thanks for viewing this fly tying tutorial of the Biot Stonefly Nymph; feel free to leave comments/questions on this YouTube page, or email me: tcammisa@gmail.com - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

8. Two Tone Golden Stonefly - This easy Stonefly Pattern is perfect for imitating the Golden Stonefly Nymph before it hatches every year in most of my favorite trout streams. The Two Tone Golden Stone is easy to tie with very few materials. I often tie this stonefly nymph with a #6 or #4 bent shank hook. Weight is optional, but it helps to keep the fly down deep in the strike zone. This is one of my favorite flies to use on the Colorado River west of Glenwood Springs, CO. It is a constant producer of big rainbows and browns for my customers. I am confident that I can impress you with the fishing in the Colorado Rockies. Consider booking a fly fishing trip you will want more of, go to http://www.riplips.com for information and a way to sign up. Thanks for watching! ~ MT - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher
