31. Hen Hackle: Tips & Techniques - In this "Tips & Techniques" fly tying video, I explain some common uses for hen hackle. As a beginning fly tyer over 20 years ago, I knew little about the differences between hen and rooster, thus I wanted to give a brief overview and show a few common applications for the actual hen feathers. There are many more uses for hen hackle, but this video features the common ones that I employ, especially with JV Hen Hackle. The various applications I show are: Tailing and legs (especially for use with patterns such as the Copper John), beards on wet fly patterns, and soft hackles. These are just a few possibilities for utilizing hen hackles. Speaking of JV Hen Hackle, I want to give a shout-out to Cleawater Hackle, which is where I get the majority of the hackle I use. They have an incredible product called JV Hen Hackle, which offers smaller and softer feathers, especially for those tying trout flies. The feathers will tie down to 18 on soft hackles, and there are lots of great colors (I discuss the JV Hungarian Partridge Hen Hackle a lot in this video!). When you visit their site, be sure to let Lars (the owner) know that I sent you: http://www.clearwaterhackle.com/jv-hens/ Thanks for viewing this YouTube fly tying tutorial; feel free to leave any comments/questions on this site, or email me: tcammisa@gmail.com - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

32. Zuddler Conehead Minnow - In this fly tying tutorial, I share a popular streamer, the Zuddler Conehead Minnow, which is a cross between two other extraordinary patterns. This fly, part Zonker and part Muddler Minnow, has lots of characteristics that fish like, including great movement from the rabbit strip and a front profile that resembles many bait fish. I offer a number of variations throughout this tutorial, and encourage you to share any you create. On a related note, this is a video response to a younger member of our fly tying community; I recommend that you check out Jordan Lee's tying of this pattern, too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDkS49K6fS8 Featured in this tutorial is the S403 Streamer hook by Allen Fly Fishing. This hook is excellent to tie both this pattern and many others due to its shank being 3xl. You can view this hook at the following link: http://www.allenflyfishing.com/s403-nymph-streamer-3xl/ Thanks for viewing this fly tying tutorial; feel free to leave any comments/questions directly on this YouTube page, or you can email me: tcammisa@gmail.com - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

33. Crystal Conehead Woolly Bugger - Two Minute Fly Tying: The Crystal Conehead Woolly Bugger Continuing my Two Minute Tying series, I chose a basic pattern that always hooks fish, the Crystal Bugger. Derived from a Woolly Bugger, the crystal bugger employs a crystal chenille that allows the body of the fly to sparkle, therefore attracting more fish. In this version, I chose not to include hackle because the chenille I used had such long fibers, making the hackle unnecessary. Definitely vary your own pattern, altering the color combinations, beads at the front, or use of hackle; feel free to share those new patterns on this page, especially as a Video Response. Thanks for viewing, and be sure to post and comments/questions either here or my email: tcammisa@gmail.com - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

36. Sulfur/PMD Sparkle Dun - For this tutorial, I chose a fly created and popularized by Craig Matthews, the Sparkle Dun. This fly is a modified version of the comparadun, and represents a number of stages occurring before the dun is fully emerged. Featuring an Allen Fly Fishing hook for this tie (http://www.allenflyfishing.com/d101bl-standard-dry-fly-barbless/), I selected a sulfur / pmd pattern, which can be easily adjusted to match the mayfly of your choice. Be sure to locate the correct deer hair to ensure a proper wing when tying, as I show in the video. Thanks for viewing and, as always, feel free to leave questions / comments here or email me: tcammisa@gmail.com - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

37. Ginger Snap (Czech nymph) - In this fly tying tutorial, I explain the procedures for tying Kevin Compton's Czech nymph, the "Ginger Snap." This attractor fly, requiring intermediate tying skills, is tied on a jig hook, in line with other Czech-style patterns. The "Ginger Snap" also utilizes additional great components, such as a dubbing loop thorax and peacock quills for the body. Kevin's brother Bryant, who guides for Vail Valley Anglers ( http://www.vailvalleyanglers.com/guid... ) uses this pattern on a regular basis, which speaks highly for the pattern. As referenced in the video, Kevin owns Performance Flies ( http://www.performanceflies.com/ ) and you can find all of the required materials through his site. I encourage you to check out the other materials offered because they are all quality products. Thanks for viewing this YouTube fly tying tutorial; feel free to leave any comments / questions directly on this YouTube page, or you can email me: tcammisa@gmail.com - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

39. Quill Wing Dry Fly - A YouTube subscriber of my channel was interested in learning how to tie wings from duck quills, thus I made this video to explain this task. I reference Mike Valla in this video, being that his books on Catskill dry flies are great for this style. Another useful resource for this wing is tied by Davie McPhail. 40. Hot Spot Spider (soft hackle) - Featured in this fly tying tutorial is the Hot Spot Spider, a slight variation of the classic that so many North Country flies rotate around. Spiders, also commonly referred to as soft hackles, typically consist of thin silk thread bodies and sparse amounts of hackle from varying game birds. This pattern adds a modern material, Glo-Brite, for a hot spot by its head. In this tutorial, I also show how to properly prepare a hackle for spider and soft hackle patterns. The hook used in this tutorial is one of my favorite wet fly / nymph hooks, the W502BL from Allen Fly Fishing. With a sproat bend and 2x heavy, this classic looking nymph hook is perfect for spiders and soft hackles. You can find the hook at the following link: http://www.allenflyfishing.com/w502bl-wet-fly-nymph-barbless/ Thanks for viewing this fly tying tutorial, feel free to leave comments & questions directly on this YouTube page, or you can email me: tcammisa@gmail.com - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher
