142. Fly Tying with Ryan- Tim Wade's North Fork Special - Learn to tie the North Fork Special, a fly designed by Tim Wade owner of Cody, Wyomings North Fork Anglers. We use this nymph quite a bit in the Black Hills. The North Fork Special makes a nice lead fly in a two fly nymph rig. It is heavy enough to eliminate the need for split shot in many fishing situations. This variation, tied by Ryan Gabert, has a gold bead and black biots. Tim Wade's original North Fork Special uses a silver bead and gray biots. Thanks for watching and happy tying. more videos at www.flyfishsd.com - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

143. Simple Stonefly Pattern - A Simple Stonefly Pattern so effective and easy to tie, it should be illegal. This fly is very realistic and because Stonefly Nymphs are in the river year round, trout bite them on sight. I like to tie it with a #8 or #6 hook with a bent shank. This nymph pattern is weighted with lead wire and I use variegated spandex rubber for the tail, legs and antenna. Tying stoneflies is only half the story. My customers catch many big fish with stonefly nymphs like this one every day. If you would like to see just how well this realistic, simple stonefly pattern works for the trout in Colorado, go to http://www.riplips.com for information and booking. 144. Parachute Dry Fly Techniques - In this fly tying tutorial, I demonstrate a really neat way to tie parachute flies with monofilament. This method was popularized by Chauncy Lively and Roy Christie, and is a very effective way of securing hackle. The technique can be utilized in a variety of manners, including tying in the hackle on the bottom of the hook shank (as Chauncy frequently tied) or at the rear (such as Roy chooses in his Reversed Parachute). Regardless of the location, this is a very fun and simple way of tying parachute flies. During this tutorial, I use 6# monofilament, which is the largest size I recommend. Please disregard the proportions used in the video, as I focused on the techniques required to complete this method. With a little bit of practice, you can employ this technique in no time; good luck! 147. Pacific Krill - This fly is one I developed after reading about euphausiid pattern that a fellow tyer angler tied and fished successfully for Coho Salmon in Puget Sound. This fly is a little different but substantially the same effect as his – and this fly has earned its keep here offshore Oregon of late. Like any non-batfish fly, this is an offshore fly to consider when Rockfish and salmon seem un-receptive to their usual and typical prey types. Shrimp, Krill, Crab Spawn and all the terms anglers use referring to such foods can be a selective target to ocean predators, and when they want the little stuff, you’d better be offering it up on your tippets, cuz the best Clousers and Deceivers will often be ignored over a fly of this style. Sometimes I will tie this fly with bead Chain (black of course) or Black Pseudo Eyes, but when fishing in the top few feet of the ocean or estuary, the EP eyes will give me a fly that will stay in the proper depth zone longer than a fly with heavier eyes. The EP shrimp dub brushes are a marvelous discovery to me, and I’ll be surprised if you don’t find a lot of uses for them in your tying as well. 149. Firebead Soft Hackle Sowbug - This is a pattern that some crafty fly tier on the Bighorn River came up with. It works like hotcakes in the spring, especially on tailwaters like the Bighorn. Tie it with a pink, tan, or gray body. Wapsi Sow-Scud Dubbing is the preferred dubbing. Ice dubbing would also make a great version of this fly- try UV Tan, UV Gray, or UV Shrimp Pink. - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher
