42. Super Sally - The Super Sally is my favorite fly that I tie. Here in the Colorado we have a time period in the summer when the fish eat the crap out of yellow sally's. I am using an AFF T301 Terrestrial/ Hopper hook (straight eye, 2x-Long, 1x-Fine, slightly humped dry fly hook). Check out Allen Fly Fishing at www.allenflyfishing.com. The natural bend of this hook allows the abdomen of the fly to rest within the surface film. The web wing and flash give a fantastic silhouette from a rising trout. The rubber legs assist in keeping the fly upright and provide natural movement when on the water. You can change the color of the fly to match other stone flies and caddis dries. 43. McLoco Beetle - The McLoco Beetle is a highly visible beetle pattern for the summer and fall months. I am using an AFF D103BL hook (down-eye, 1x-Long, 1X Fine, barbless dry fly hook). This is a sweet hook at a sweet price. Check them out at www.allenflyfishing.com. If you can't see this pattern on the water, than you really need to get your eyes checked. The peacock colored foam reflects light when on the water and the McFlyFoam hot spot is hard not to see. The best thing about this pattern is that the fish only sees the peacock underbody and the black silhouette of the shellback. When tying this pattern, make sure that the 2mm foam is cut slightly larger than the gap of the hook. This will help keep the fly presented right side up when on the water. Lucky for us they are abundant, however because they are native to NZ, we prefer to use road kill...You can find PUKEKO in swampy areas, for me around the Broadlands / Reporoa area.... We have used Weka breast feathers from the Chatham Is, and other similar shape feathers with as much success, however, we have noticed the trout find it hard to resist the NATURAL DARK BLUE in this beautiful feather. 47. Fly fishing - Fly fishing is so exciting! This was my dad's second time fly fishing. We practiced casting, presentation, setting the hook and keeping a tight line a few times on the lawn. The anticipation to get on the water was too great so we put our waders on and jumped in our float tubes. This was the Hex Hatch so things were likely to go crazy! My dad was casting to rising trout that were cruising along the shallows, feeding on hex emergers and duns. He was using a size 8 foam hex dun which this trout found irresistable.
