21. Bandit Leach - Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures Tom Melvin presents a staple Alaska pattern designed to imitate baitfish for rainbow, char, and grayling. This pattern is a staple in his box for Alaska and Kamchatka Yellow Dog Hosted Trips. Take a look as Tom spins up the design and details for this fly pattern. There are many great fly patterns on the market today that have a reputation for constantly producing and enticing some of the pickiest fish in the world. Throughout our years of travel and fishing all over the world we’ve nailed down patterns we can trust and depend on. Some of these patterns are very well known and some are under the radar, but they all have one thing in common – the ability to reliably catch fish. Here at Yellow Dog, we have quite a few anglers that prefer to tie their own patterns in anticipation of the next big trip. One of our main jobs is to make sure that each and every angler we work with is as well prepared as possible for that next big trip, we are confident in that having a couple of these patterns in your box will make a huge difference. For more information or questions please contact Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures office for more information on fishing Alaska and Kamchatka! - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

22. Tying the Light Cahill with Uncle John - In this fly tying tutorial, I again welcome my favorite guest and mentor, Uncle John Cammisa. Though many patterns have been tied at his vise, one he returns to frequently is the Light Cahill, due to its ability to catch fish through the years. Tying this pattern in the Catskill-style, my uncle shows a few tips along the way, especially in regards to splitting the wood duck flank prior to turning the feather into wings. As a special bonus, I spent the first section of this video "interviewing" my uncle on a few topics, including resources related to fly fishing and tying, favorite authors, and tube flies. We hope you enjoy this "Q & A" session as Uncle John shares some of his incredible knowledge and insight. As mentioned in the video, my uncle is a bamboo rod builder, and please let me know if you are interested in discussing a rod with him. 26. George Daniel's Czech Catnip - This fly tying tutorial features George Daniel's Czech Catnip, a fly commonly used as the "anchor" for those familiar with Czech Nymphing. The anchor fly is the heaviest fly placed on the setup, and this one works great for it bc of both its weight and ability to attract fish. This is a no-nonsense fly, plus relatively simple to tie, and I encourage you to add some of these to your fly box. Being that the main material (Micro Polar Chenille) comes in a variety of colors, this pattern can be varied quite easily. I made a slight variation to the original pattern by substituting UV Chartreuse Polar Chenille in place of the original Olive, and I believe this change helps to make the fly more of an attractor-type in waters especially for trout, steelhead, salmon, and grayling. If there are any additional combinations of materials that have worked for you, feel free to share via this page. Featured in this fly tying tutorial are the N203BL hooks by Allen Fly Fishing. These hooks have a great look to them, are barbless, plus are 2x heavy, with that additional weight helping to get this fly to the bottom quickly. I encourage you to check out these hooks and more at: http://www.allenflyfishing.com/n203bl/ Thanks for viewing this fly tying tutorial; feel free to leave comments/questions directly on this YouTube page or email me: tcammisa@gmail.com - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

27. DeFrank's Grim Reaper Variant - In this fly tying tutorial, I show the steps to tie a fantastic fly for steelhead, known as "DeFrank's Grim Reaper." Originally tied for the Great Lakes region (specifically tributaries of Lake Erie) and the steelhead within, this pattern is useful for a number of species, and is a "go-to" for many fly fishermen. I call this a variant because I have modified this pattern from its original design, which can be found: http://www.defranksflies.com/defranks-grim-reaper/. I believe that both patterns are effective, and challenge you to make any additional modifications to add to the pattern's ability to catch fish. Utilized in this tutorial are the S402BL hooks from Allen Fly Fishing. These are excellent hooks that can easily hold a steelhead, thus ones I recommend for this pattern. Feel free to check out these and more here: http://www.allenflyfishing.com/n212bl-nymph-streamer-2xl-barbless/ Thanks for viewing this fly tying tutorial for DeFrank's Grim Reaper "Variant."
