61. The BC Needlefish - Trolling Bucktail style flies tied on tubes was very common during the glory days of ocean Silver Salmon recreational fisheries of the 1950s -- 1980s from Northern California through SE Alaska. Regions like Puget Sound and Vancouver Island spawned many versions of Coho Tube flies that had local followings and rationale for the selection of one pattern over another. Near as I can tell, fly anglers used these tube Bucktail flies to troll as well as cast to feeding Coho in saltwater. The various fly patterns are sometimes suggestive of a natural baitfish and sometimes just wild bright flashy fish strike attractors. This Tube Bucktail is a simple pattern inspired by several flies I have seen popularized by BC anglers specifically imitating big Needlefish. The Steve Farrar's Blend material is easy to work with, durable, and swims your fly true, without the worry of needing to select the perfect Bucktail hair. 62. Black Bunny Leech - In this fly tying tutorial, I demonstrate the techniques for tying the Black Bunny Leech. This pattern is suggestive of a leech, though if you vary the colors of the rabbit strips, other baitfish can be represented. At the front of this fly is a Fish Skull Baitfish Head (http://flymenfishingcompany.org/products/fish-skull-products/fish-skull/), which helps to add both weight and the desired appearance of eyes. This fly was tied on the Allen Fly Fishing S402BL hook (http://www.allenflyfishing.com/n212bl-nymph-streamer-2xl-barbless/), though I also recommend tying this leech on hooks up to 4xl. 63. Pacific Krill - This fly is one I developed after reading about euphausiid pattern that a fellow tyer angler tied and fished successfully for Coho Salmon in Puget Sound. This fly is a little different but substantially the same effect as his – and this fly has earned its keep here offshore Oregon of late. Like any non-batfish fly, this is an offshore fly to consider when Rockfish and salmon seem un-receptive to their usual and typical prey types. Shrimp, Krill, Crab Spawn and all the terms anglers use referring to such foods can be a selective target to ocean predators, and when they want the little stuff, you’d better be offering it up on your tippets, cuz the best Clousers and Deceivers will often be ignored over a fly of this style. Sometimes I will tie this fly with bead Chain (black of course) or Black Pseudo Eyes, but when fishing in the top few feet of the ocean or estuary, the EP eyes will give me a fly that will stay in the proper depth zone longer than a fly with heavier eyes. The EP shrimp dub brushes are a marvelous discovery to me, and I’ll be surprised if you don’t find a lot of uses for them in your tying as well. 66. Holy Grail Nymph - During this fly tying tutorial for the Holy Grail nymph, I give a brief background on how I came across the pattern, followed by the materials and tying procedures. The Holy Grail, which I first came across on the Orvis website, is a no-nonsense pattern that can be utilized for both caddis and mayfly nymphs. It can easily be fished in a "dry-dropper" situation, and colors I recommend aside from this olive pattern include tan, brown, and black. If you decide to alter this pattern and find your variation more effective (or simply unique!), be sure to share in the comments section below.Featured in this fly tying tutorial are the N204BL hooks from Allen Fly Fishing; you can find these hooks and many others at the following link: http://www.allenflyfishing.com/n204bl-shrimp-caddis-scud-thin-wire-barbless/ Additionally featured in this fly tying tutorial is UNI-Mylar in the Holographic Chartreuse color. This material is another great one in the UNI line, and you can view information about their products at the following link: http://www.uniproducts.com Finally, this video featured the Stonfo Kaiman vise, which I have received a lot of comments about. I recommend this vise to all ranges of tyers, and you can find information regarding it at the following link: http://www.stonfo.it Thanks for viewing this YouTube fly tying tutorial on the Holy Grail Nymph; feel free to leave any comments/questions on this page, or email me: tcammisa@gmail.com - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

68. Frenchie Nymph - In this fly tying tutorial, I demonstrate the techniques used to tie Lance Egan's Frenchie nymph. This effective pattern has been gaining popularity over the last few years, and with good reason: It catches trout! I offer a number of variations, inlcuding tying the fly on a jig hook, which will certainly appeal to many crowds, such as those in Euro or Czech-style nymph fishing and competition anglers. Feel free to share your own variations of this fly in the "Comments" section of this YouTube page. Featured in this video are the J100BL jig hooks by Allen Fly Fishing. This hook will ride point up, thus ensuring that you will have less snags when fishing weighted patterns. You can find this hook, and many more, at the following link: http://www.allenflyfishing.com/copy-of-w501bl-wet-fly-nymph-1xl-barbless/ Thanks for viewing this fly tying tutorial of Lance Egan's Frenchie. 70. Black Jack Steel - Steelhead flies are a blast to tie. They are big, colorful, and look really fun in a fly box. Each spring I reserve a considerable amount of time at the vise for these colorful creations. Among my favorites is the Black Jack Steel. About five years ago I created a trout fly that I named the Black Jack. It is a Prince Nymph variant with a thread body that is coated with Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails as the center piece of this pattern. It has found great success for trout throughout the Western United States. While dabbling at the vise with that fly in mind I came up with a steelhead variation that incorporates a hot pink (or chartreuse) bead, and a Semi-Seal dubbing collar. I have now fished this nymph for steelhead for the past four seasons, and done very well. Give it a try!
