92. Simple Stonefly Pattern - A Simple Stonefly Pattern so effective and easy to tie, it should be illegal. This fly is very realistic and because Stonefly Nymphs are in the river year round, trout bite them on sight. I like to tie it with a #8 or #6 hook with a bent shank. This nymph pattern is weighted with lead wire and I use variegated spandex rubber for the tail, legs and antenna. Tying stoneflies is only half the story. My customers catch many big fish with stonefly nymphs like this one every day. If you would like to see just how well this realistic, simple stonefly pattern works for the trout in Colorado, go to http://www.riplips.com for information and booking. 94. Tying Dry Fly Tails with Microfibetts - During this tutorial, I explain three techniques for utilizing microfibetts when tying dry flies. There are other options available for adding tailing fibers, yet these three are all quick and easy, plus help to imitate the natural adult stage of the mayfly. After tying the tailing fibers in, continue to finish the fly with either dubbing, herl, quill, etc. I prefer the use of microfibett tailing fibers with finicky trout, especially when I want to ensure the fibers will closely represent the natural insect while maintaining buoyancy for the pattern. 97. Lightning Bug Bead Head Nymph - The Lightning Bug Bead Head Nymph (orange for this fly) is an all-purpose nymph that is used as more of an attractor pattern when fly fishing. The pattern can be varied by utilizing different materials for the tail, changing colors/sizes in the ribbing, and varying the color and material of dubbing at the thorax. Feel free to experiment with this pattern because the possibilities are endless! Featured in this fly tying tutorial are Allen Fly Fishing hooks, the N204BL (http://www.allenflyfishing.com/n204bl-shrimp-caddis-scud-thin-wire-barbless/), which are barbless and offer a great hook for this pattern.
