31. And on into Spring... - I collected a lot of footage over the past month. I wanted to wait to make another video (people seem to be watching them, thanks!) until I had at least one large brown trout. I have been wading all winter, trying to get better at fishing from the banks, as fishing from a boat is just a different game. My streamer technique really improved due to this. In a last-ditch effort to get one large brown, I took my little pontoon out to try and increase my chances on a big river with lots of big fish. I went to the MO, got skunked, lost an oar stop and snapped my eight weight. I was much more upset about the skunking. I didn't let it get to me, though, and my plan for the next trip was to just enjoy myself. I had only my six weight with me, and it was quite nice to have one rod and one mindset: just catch a fish. The wind picked up as soon as I hit the Lower Madison, and the water was muddy. It took me a while to realize that the fish are still not in fast water (despite its depth) but with the mud they seemed to be perfectly happy in shallow frog water. My first strike of the day was a rod's length in front of me and a 20 inch brown to boot. Before twenty four hours were up, I had two more, each bigger than the last. The next day I sped to the Upper, was the first to hit the water and jammed a sandwich down my throat as I approached a favorite run (I was too excited to fish to cook breakfast, so I ate my lunch). I like to make a few practice casts before hitting the main run. I remember being ready: I ate my sandwich; I marveled at the clear water; I slowly crept up to within casting distance but stayed far back from the fish; I was rested and alert. One cast, two cast, three and all of a sudden a twenty-three inch brown trout is three feet in the air, looking buttery in the sun. It was all I could do to keep him out of the fast water. He had two of some fisherman's nymphs in him, which I was happy to extract--sucks to be that guy! Later that day, around five thirty, I got another one. At this point I just stopped fishing. I regret this, because those days are so rare, but I really felt like I was being greedy at the time. I went to my truck and cooked my neglected breakfast for dinner. How's that for a life lesson? (Take failure in stride, and prepare for rewarded patience and dedication). Thanks, fishing! - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

33. Sea bass on the fly - When the water temperatures reach 12 degrees Celsius the European sea bass, Dicentrachus labrax, will head up north to our waters and start feeding in our estuaries. They reach our shores around May and stay until the end of October. During these months there is just one fish on my mind and every other fishery is put aside. There is nothing like the take of sea bass or the roughness of fishing the salts. Fishing from shore but also from the boat it brought me to a multitude of spots and learned more and more each visit to the coast. The port of Rotterdam is my hunting ground but further South and North there are ample spots te be found. This season I took along my camera and tripod and collected clips all through the season and made this movie out of it. It is far from a high quality fly fishing movie but it shows the way I perceive my beloved fishery and I have the chance to let people in on it. For future generations I hope regulations of harvesting these fish will be changed and that for many years to come this fish will thrive like the Striped Bass in the US. I can only hope. Enjoy! If you would like to read and see more about fishing for European sea bass have a look on the Dyckers.com blog or Facebook sight. Many thanks to Edwin Kerssies of Dyckers Lesley Luijer of Bassexpress and Loop Tackle for their terrific saltwater rods and reels. - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

35. Steelhead and Spines - Our addiction to mountains and rivers has always had us looking north to Alaska, where big fish and mountains existed on a level we had only experienced in our dreams. As the winter of 2012 continued to disappoint in the lower 48, it was obvious that Alaska was being buried in snow. It seemed like the time was right, that maybe after 10 years of "practice" in Utah, we were ready for our journey north. We hit the road in March, putting everything we had into our first and for all we knew, our last adventure to Alaska, with two things on our mind, steelhead and spines. We joined forces with three of our friends from Utah, for a ski-plane assisted camping expedition in the heart of south eastern Alaska's backcountry. Over 50 miles by wing from the nearest road, our pilot dropped the 5 of us off on a big lonely glacier encircled by jagged mountains, and in the spirit of adventure, wished us good luck. We would need it. From that point on, the feeling of being completely alone in a wild and unknown land for the first time in our lives penetrated every cell in our bodies. Only one person in our group had ever been to Alaska, Chris Coulter. On day 8 when he suddenly left to work in Haines as a heli guide, the feeling of isolation crept deeper into our minds, and it had never felt so good. We chose to do this trip without any guides, plans, itineraries, or rules simply because we wanted to have our own experience. We wanted it to be raw, unknown, and we wanted it to be an adventure. Of course the style we chose made things much more difficult for us than they could have been, but the feeling of accomplishment was immense. We found glorious spines to ride, and stumbled upon one of the best runs of wild Steelhead in the world. Returning home safely from our first journey to Alaska signified a successful mission, along with the wonderful new memories from the greatest riding and fishing experiences of our lives. http://facebook.com/provobros http://ianprovo.com http://neilprovo.com Big thanks to Outdoor Research, Orvis, Backcountry.com, Voile, and Smith Optics music: "Elephant" - Tame Impala "Golden" - Tired Eyes Music "Bicycle Bicycle" - Early B "Distant Time" - Tired Eyes Music "Such a Sky" - Tired Eyes Music "Shining Sun Riddim" - Riga / Hemp Higher Prod. 36. Fishing South Water Caye Belize - Video montage of a great week we spent in late 2011 staying at Pelican Beach Resort, South Water Caye in Belize. The fishing here is super accessible with tailing bones right in front of your private bungalow style accommodation, you could even see them from the comfort of your own bed. The large flat on the western side was loaded with mid sized Bonefish and my partner and 6 month old daughter could watch me roam the skinny waters from the comfort of the balcony. The Bones on this flat were pretty spooky and had obviously seen their share of fisherman in the past, that said however they rolled over for the right presentation. The reef front was also home to plenty of Snapper, Barracuda and Triggerfish. Wandering the Caye North would also no doubt uncover a Permit or too. While you could spend a week self guiding on foot from the comfort of your accommodation, local guides are also available to hit the numerous atolls in the area for Permit, Tarpon and more Bones. This place is the perfect family destination for the fishing fanatic who has to balance family and fishing! Best of all it is at a reasonable price! - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher
