1. Opal Midge - The Opal Midge is an easy tie and very effective midge larva pattern. I am tying this pattern on an Allen Fly Fishing N304 hook. This particular hook is a straight-eye, 2X-short shank, thin wire, emerger/scud hook. Check them out by visiting www.allenflyfishing.com I generally fish this pattern in the late fall through early spring months. I generally find that in the winter months, the trout tend to pod in specific areas of the river, generally an area with lots of sunlight. These fish become very picky on what they eat. The mirage opal tinsel gives off a wide range of colors and the UV Clear Fly Finish head gives the fly's thorax a lot of depth and shine. I have had amazing results when using this fly, generally as the end fly in a tandem nymph rigging set-up. Tie some up and see for yourself! 3. The Shrymph - Step by step tying instructions for my favorite panfish fly. I generally tie with two goals in mind: Must be easy to tie, and must be a productive fly. So far I have taken hundreds of bluegill on this fly mixed with a good amount of stumpknockers, along with the occasional shellcracker or bass. I generally tie it on a size 12 nymph hook, with a 1/8" bead head, ultra thin sili-legs, and small sized pearl chenille. Have fun with it and thanks for watching! - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

8. RS2 - An RS2 is a must have in any anglers fly box. This mayfly emerger pattern is one of the most versatile and effective flies to fish. I am going be tying the RS2 on an Allen Fly Fishing D103S hook between the sizes of 16 through 20. This particular dry fly hook has a straight eye, 1X--long shank and thin wire. This hook is new to the Allen Fly Fishing hook line up and will soon be one of my favorites, show check them out by visiting www.allenflyfishing.com This fly can be tied in many different colors to match the hatch in your local area. Try using PMD, Brown/Olive, Black Superfine Dubbing. I generally will use the light dun microfibetts and bright white antron on all color variations. The most effective way to fish this pattern is to fish it in the surface film or slightly below it. At the end of the dead drift raise your rod tip slightly, the fly will move towards the surface imitating an emerging may fly. 9. PMD UV Super Baetis - The UV Super Baetis is one of RK's Fly Design most effective fly patterns. Super Hair is used to create a segmented body and provides excellent UV light qualities. UV Clear Fly Finish provides a durable and wet tapered look. Allen Fly Fishing N304 (2X Short, Reversed Bend, Emerger) hook is used. This particular hook is one of the best that Allen produces. It is sharp, strong and perfectly shaped. Check them out www.allenflyfishing.com The PMD version of the UV Super Baetis is fished during Pale Morning Dun and Light Cahill hatches. It can be fished either as the lead or end fly in a tandem rigging system with a strike indicator. I generally fish it as the lead fly with an emerger pattern trailing it. The tungsten bead allows the fly to sink fast for an optimal drift. At the end of the drift, I'll lift up my rod tip so the flies rise up through the water column, imitating an emerging fly. 10. Emergence Caddis Larva - The Emergence Caddis Larva is one of my favorite caddis larva patterns to tie and fish. It closely resembles John Barr's Uncased Caddis but with a few different materials and tying techniques. I am tying this pattern on an Allen Fly Fishing N202 hook. This particular hook is a down-eye, 3X-long, standard wire, slightly humped nymph /dry fly hook. It works great for caddis and terrestrial nymph and dry fly patterns. Check them out by visiting www.allenflyfishing.com This particular caddis larva pattern is tied to imitate an uncased caddis larva beginning its emergence stage of its life-cycle. I generally fish this pattern as my first fly in a tandem nymph rigging set-up between late spring and early fall. The fly gives off a lot of UV light qualities which attracts fish. The UV Fly Finish Coating provides the fly with a lot of depth. Below is a quick reference on what size brass bead to use relative to the size hook you're tying on.
