51. The BC Needlefish - Trolling Bucktail style flies tied on tubes was very common during the glory days of ocean Silver Salmon recreational fisheries of the 1950s -- 1980s from Northern California through SE Alaska. Regions like Puget Sound and Vancouver Island spawned many versions of Coho Tube flies that had local followings and rationale for the selection of one pattern over another. Near as I can tell, fly anglers used these tube Bucktail flies to troll as well as cast to feeding Coho in saltwater. The various fly patterns are sometimes suggestive of a natural baitfish and sometimes just wild bright flashy fish strike attractors. This Tube Bucktail is a simple pattern inspired by several flies I have seen popularized by BC anglers specifically imitating big Needlefish. The Steve Farrar's Blend material is easy to work with, durable, and swims your fly true, without the worry of needing to select the perfect Bucktail hair. 52. Sparkle Minnow - Dustin is behind the vise tying one of his all-time favorite streamers; a variation of Coffey's Sparkle Minnow. It has been one of the most productive streamers in the Pacific Northwest or anywhere you like throwing big, flashy baitfish. This pattern has also proven its effectiveness on stillwaters. We've carried these flies in the shop before and they are absolutely deadly. This fly typically works on grey days, but it gets a lot of attention on sunny days as well. Either way, you should definitely include this pattern in your streamer arsenal. To capitalize on this pattern's effectiveness, you will need a dubbing brush tool. Today we're tying this fly in pearl and silver, but you can vary things up by trying gold and pearl, which is ideal for cutthroat. MATERIALS: • TMC #300 Streamer Hook - Size 2 • 1/4" Real Eyes in Nickle/Pearl • White & Gray Maribou • Tan UV Crystal Flash • Silver Ice Dub • Dubbing Brush Tool • .025 Lead Wire - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

53. Tying Tube Flies: Part 1 - Tube flies are becoming more and more popular in fly fishing, and for a variety of species. I knew that it was time to become introduced to this style, and was even more convinced when reading two articles in the April-May 2014 issue of "Fly Fisherman." Those articles, written by Tom Rosenbauer and April Vokey, really broke everything down, plus gave great insight towards the many directions tube flies can be taken. Moving forward, I was hooked, and am now sharing my own thoughts in this series, "Tube Flies." During Part 1 of this fly tying series, I give a brief overview of my initial thoughts on tube flies, and then examine a starter kit from HMH (which I recommend to those beginning to tie tube flies). I discuss the materials included, and then ask the viewers for feedback related to other materials they have had success with in the "Comments" section of this YouTube page. Thanks for viewing this YouTube fly tying tutorial, and I encourage you to view my additional videos at the following website: http://www.troutandfeather.com Feel free to leave any questions/comments on this YouTube page, or you can email me: tcammisa@gmail.com - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

55. Open water Chinook Clouser Minnow - This Saltwater Clouser fly fishes well in the both open ocean and estuaries. The texture of the Electric Yellow fibers are not as pleasing to my likes as most of the Steve Farrar's Blends, but it is bright and I use in sparingly to spice up this fly. I have tied Clousers in diverse sizes, materials, & colors, and the Clouser is among a handful of fly styles that merits the attention of most fly tyers and fly anglers. Granted, a 3" Clouser would not be my first choice when fishing over Spring Creek Trout when they are keying on # 20 Mayfly Spinners. Still, I love the Clouser. If you are familiar with the fly, you already get it. If not, I encourage you to begin working on your Clouser tying and fishing skills.
