25. The Royal Trude and Variation - For this fly tying tutorial, I wanted to bring more light to a tradition pattern, the Royal Trude. Instead of simply describing and tying this fly, I focused on possible variations that a tyer would make to enhance the fly, bringing it up to more "modern-day" materials. The original pattern is a highly effective fly, being fished as a dry (attractor), wet fly. and streamer; the variation is able to be fished this way, too. Other common flies this pattern can represent include terrestrials, stoneflies, caddis, and drakes. Current versions of this fly are also well-known; the Lime Trude won a One-Fly contest, thus solidifying this pattern for years to come. Featured in this tutorial are D102BL dry fly hooks by Allen Fly Fishing (http://www.allenflyfishing.com/d102bl... these hooks are excellent for a variety of dry fly patterns. A second product featured is the cape by Clearwater Hackle (http://www.clearwaterhackle.com/capes/); this product is some of the best available on today's market. Thanks for viewing this fly tying tutorial for the Royal Trude and Variation; please leave and comments or questions on this YouTube page, or email me: tcammisa@gmail.com - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

27. Hot Spot Spider (soft hackle) - Featured in this fly tying tutorial is the Hot Spot Spider, a slight variation of the classic that so many North Country flies rotate around. Spiders, also commonly referred to as soft hackles, typically consist of thin silk thread bodies and sparse amounts of hackle from varying game birds. This pattern adds a modern material, Glo-Brite, for a hot spot by its head. In this tutorial, I also show how to properly prepare a hackle for spider and soft hackle patterns. The hook used in this tutorial is one of my favorite wet fly / nymph hooks, the W502BL from Allen Fly Fishing. With a sproat bend and 2x heavy, this classic looking nymph hook is perfect for spiders and soft hackles. You can find the hook at the following link: http://www.allenflyfishing.com/w502bl-wet-fly-nymph-barbless/ Thanks for viewing this fly tying tutorial, feel free to leave comments & questions directly on this YouTube page, or you can email me: tcammisa@gmail.com - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

30. John Anderson's Bird of Prey caddis - For this fly tying tutorial, I chose a pattern that represents a caddis pupa and emerger, John Anderson's Bird of Prey Caddis. This fly consists of just a few simple materials, but as you'll see, all of them are considered some of the best to use in fly tying. I do vary this pattern slightly from the original, but kept the most critical components to ensure its effectiveness. I recommend this pattern for intermediate fly tyers, though those at an "upper beginner" level will be able to complete this fly with a little practice. Featured in this tutorial are the N204/N204BL hooks from Allen Fly Fishing (http://www.allenflyfishing.com/n204bl-shrimp-caddis-scud-thin-wire-barbless/); I explain a reason why I like this 2x-short hook in the video.
