4. Bastard Crab - I call this fly the Bastard Crab because it is my bastardization of a great pattern I picked up from Greg Vincent, who runs H2O Bonefishing on Grand Bahama Island. Greg is a fantastic fly tyer, and ties some productive and great looking flies. I used one of his crab patterns on a trip there in June 2008, and came home and tied my version from memory, with a little bit of a pesonal twist - not as nice a fly as Greg's, but the bastardized version is also very effective. I've caught bonefish, redfish, and tripletail on this pattern so far. I've also seen this type of pattern showing up in numerous other spots, suggesting it is widely effective. This pattern is a variation of the famous Del Brown Merkin crab pattern. I use Puglisi fibers for the body instead of yarn. There is no hackle for claws, only marabou, and the numerous (6 legs for size 2, 5 for size 4) legs are tied in on the hook side of the shank to that they stand up from the fly rather than splay out. The fly does not have to be stripped, the legs and marabou provide plenty of action to a falling or resting fly. - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

5. John Barr's Bouface - This is one of my favorite patterns tied by John Barr. This particular pattern, as well as other classic Barr patterns can be found in his book, Barr's Flies. The bouface is tied to mimic a leech and can be tied in many different color variations. The combination of squirrel hair, flashabou and marabou makes this an excellent fish catching pattern. This particular pattern is tied on a AFF N201 (3x-long, humped shank, nymph hook). This hook is super strong and extremely sharp. I have caught some 20 inch trout on this pattern and have never bent or broke this hook. Check out Allen Fly Fishing www.allenflyfishing.com to view their selection of hooks, beads and much more. 6. Bullethead Caddisfly - For this tutorial, I am demonstrating the process to tie Al & Gretchen Beatty's Bullethead Caddisfly. This is a very fun pattern to tie, especially for those who enjoy spinning deer hair. There are different ways to tie this pattern, especially for the bullethead; some insist placing the bullethead hair first, while others last. I chose the former for this pattern because I dislike crowding the remaining sections of this fly. This is also a fun pattern to fish, as I describe in the video. Thanks for viewing this pattern, and feel free to leave comments/questions on this page or email me: tcammisa@gmail.com - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

7. Action Jackson - The Action Jackson is the most successful articulated streamer pattern that I have ever fished. I am using an AFF MP001 (up-turned eye, multipurpose, stinger hook) for the trailing hook and an AFF S404 (straight eye, 4X-long, round bend, streamer hook) for the front hook. Check them out at http://www.allenflyfishing.com. There are three things that make this pattern so effective. First, most fish do not fully eat a leach, sculpins or bait fish on the first strike; they wound them first by biting their tail. The stinger hook at the tail of the fly reduces the chances of short strikes/ missed opportunities. Secondly, the articulated portion of the tail moves freely in the water and gives the illusion of a swimming leech, sculpin or baitfish. Lastly, the squirrel hair and legs provide excellent movement in the water. The sili legs project lots of UV light that grabs the fish's attention. This pattern is also effective in the following colors; black, rust, chartreuse, brown, tan and natural. You can also tie this pattern in different lengths. 10. Clown Shoe Caddis - For this fly tying tutorial, I chose to tie the Clown Shoe Caddis (aka Boulder Creek Caddis), a pattern representing the emerging caddis. This pattern, created by Jay Zimmerman, gives you some flexibility when fishing, being that you can hang droppers off of the hook bend, keep the fly floating on the surface, or allow the abdomen to sit in the water. This is an intermediate pattern, plus there are opportunities for variations when tying, as described in the video. Also featured are hooks from Allen Fly Fishing (http://www.allenflyfishing.com/n203bl/), the N203BL Shrimp/Caddis hooks, which are perfect for this pattern. Thanks for viewing this tutorial, and feel free to leave comments/questions on this YouTube page, or email me: tcammisa@gmail.com - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher
