2. Hot Spot Spider (soft hackle) - Featured in this fly tying tutorial is the Hot Spot Spider, a slight variation of the classic that so many North Country flies rotate around. Spiders, also commonly referred to as soft hackles, typically consist of thin silk thread bodies and sparse amounts of hackle from varying game birds. This pattern adds a modern material, Glo-Brite, for a hot spot by its head. In this tutorial, I also show how to properly prepare a hackle for spider and soft hackle patterns. The hook used in this tutorial is one of my favorite wet fly / nymph hooks, the W502BL from Allen Fly Fishing. With a sproat bend and 2x heavy, this classic looking nymph hook is perfect for spiders and soft hackles. You can find the hook at the following link: http://www.allenflyfishing.com/w502bl-wet-fly-nymph-barbless/ Thanks for viewing this fly tying tutorial, feel free to leave comments & questions directly on this YouTube page, or you can email me: tcammisa@gmail.com - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

4. Shakey Beeley Slate Drake (Isonychia) Soft Hackle - Featured in this fly tying tutorial is an absolute fish-catching soft hackle fly called the Shakey Beeley, care of Blue Ribbon Flies and Mr. Nick Nicklas. As explained in this video, there is a great story accompanying the fly, though the line between fact and fiction is a tad grey. Regardless, this pattern has earned a place in many fly boxes for its ability to imitate various insects, from emerging mayflies to drowned stoneflies. In this tutorial, I explain the techniques to tie the Shakey Beeley as an Isonychia, aka Slate Drake, plus a few methods to fish the pattern, as well. Feel free to modify this fly to match the natural insects on your home (or traveled to!) waters. Featured in this fly tying tutorial are the N202 hooks by Allen Fly Fishing; be sure to check out these hooks and many others at the following link: http://www.allenflyfishing.com/n202-nymph-dry-fly/ Additionally featured in this tutorial is hen hackle from Clearwater Hackle; please check out that hackle and many others at the following link: http://www.clearwaterhackle.com/mature-hens/ Thanks for viewing this YouTube fly tying tutorial for the Shakey Beeley; feel free to leave comments/questions on this page, or email me: tcammisa@gmail.com - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

5. Soft Hackle Pheasant Tail - The Soft Hackle Pheasant Tail is my favorite fly! It can be fished on tailwater and freestone rivers. The Soft Hackle Pheasant Tail imitates a variety of insects. Most people would say that it is a Mayfly Nymph, but it also imitates a small stonefly as well. The Soft Hackle Pheasant Tail is primarily a late spring and summer fly. This is when the mayflies are most active. It can be fished in a smaller size year around, even in the winter. - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

6. Soft Hackle Glass Emerger - The Soft Hackle Glass Emerger is a quick/ easy tie and very effective mayfly emerger pattern. I generally fish this fly within the surface film or on the swing. The iridescent glass bead gives the illusion of an air bubble of an emerging fly and the fluoro fibre wing has an excellent UV light quality. I also tie this pattern with a light cahill thread to mimic a PMD or Light Cahill, as well as an olive brown thread to mimic a Blue Winged Olive. Tie some of them up and see for yourself. The Soft Hackle Glass Emerger is tied on an AFF N304 (straight-eye, 2x - short, reversed bend hook). This is my favorite hook that Allen Fly Fishing produces. It's thin wire and perfect reversed bend makes it a superior emerger hook. Check out their full line of hooks and beads by visiting www.allenflyfishing.com. 7. Hen Hackle: Tips & Techniques - In this "Tips & Techniques" fly tying video, I explain some common uses for hen hackle. As a beginning fly tyer over 20 years ago, I knew little about the differences between hen and rooster, thus I wanted to give a brief overview and show a few common applications for the actual hen feathers. There are many more uses for hen hackle, but this video features the common ones that I employ, especially with JV Hen Hackle. The various applications I show are: Tailing and legs (especially for use with patterns such as the Copper John), beards on wet fly patterns, and soft hackles. These are just a few possibilities for utilizing hen hackles. Speaking of JV Hen Hackle, I want to give a shout-out to Cleawater Hackle, which is where I get the majority of the hackle I use. They have an incredible product called JV Hen Hackle, which offers smaller and softer feathers, especially for those tying trout flies. The feathers will tie down to 18 on soft hackles, and there are lots of great colors (I discuss the JV Hungarian Partridge Hen Hackle a lot in this video!). When you visit their site, be sure to let Lars (the owner) know that I sent you: http://www.clearwaterhackle.com/jv-hens/ Thanks for viewing this YouTube fly tying tutorial; feel free to leave any comments/questions on this site, or email me: tcammisa@gmail.com - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

9. Pearl and Partridge Soft Hackle - A fly tying video showing how to tie a Pearl and Partridge. This Soft Hackle is simple to tie and very effective for trout. I use this light colored nymph pattern during the big mayfly hatches in the Summer months. This soft hackle can also be tied smaller to imitate most baetis mayflies. Capt Matt is a fly fishing guide in Aspen, CO as spends his time floating the Roaring Fork and Colorado Rivers. The trout fishing is world class and the setting can't be beat. if you would like to take a guided float trip on Colorado's greatest rivers, go to www.riplips.com for information and booking. - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher

10. Starling Nymph - Fly tying video showing how to tie a soft hackle pattern using starling hackle. This simple nymph pattern is very effective for trout. I have also learned to use this little soft hackle fly for carp that are cruising near the surface. To a fish, a Starling Nymph just looks like a little bite of food, innocent and delicious. Capt Matt is a fly fishing guide in the Colorado Rockies during the Summer and Fall. Flies like this one prove themselves every day by getting the bite. If you would like to experience the best fly fishing Colorado has to offer, contact Capt Matt at www.riplips.com Thanks for watching! - fly fishing video channel - Global FlyFisher
