Pete,

As always: amazing! Those are nice shrimps, and definitely something I'd put on my tippet. Compared to our local shrimp (the natural) they seem just a bit large, but on the other hand people here are using flies like the Pink Pig, which seems to be too large for my taste too. But it catches fish. No need to argue about that - in spite of its color and size.

Martin

There are "magic systems" out there that employ liquid acrylics that are "cured" with the application of narrow band Blue Spectrum light or UV light...[depending on the system chemistry]...
I prefer the non-UV Tuffleye Blue Light specific system for personal reasons... UV bouncing around is a vision related concern... The dental industry runs with Non-UV... to each their own...
but I digress...
Regardless... The results are entertaining, stimulating, and quite encouraging...
Add a little at a time... built the fly and cure as you go... consider it "fly spot welding"...
No odor... No turning wheel... Epoxy be gone!

'Salvaged some wrapping paper and finally got around to using it to simulate a gill plate...

Mylar tubing "pops" under the acrylic...

minimalist...

mardi gras parade droppings...

No worries... NO RULES!

The basic notion has evolved to better suit my eye... and, hopefully, the intended Striped target...
das SurfCandy style has always been fun to make and a good bet onthewater...
Things change and things stay the same...
'Same basic idea but here is the earlier VS current phamily portrait...
'Phood 4 thought... prepared with and encapsulated in BUG-BOND...

All a bit long but that allows me to trim them back as dictated by the Phinicky Phocus Group...
Here is a phull bodied phlashy sided AcrylicCandy 5.0 on a #1 Mustad Big Game Light...

'trying for a quasi phire opal sided effect...

old version 5.0 and new 6.0...

old...

new... #6 Mustad Signature Series Shrimp Hook... Super Hair w/ Flash...

Darwin might appreciate this scheme...?!

Pete,

I gotta tying some of these neat baitfish! Bought some Bug Bond a while back and haven't broken it out yet. Maybe a project for this Sunday afternoon or evening. Just love the look of these flies! Good job!

Mylar under glass [acrylic]...
The Right Honourable David Edwards has just made available the new AA powered UV light
that quickly cures and transforms Bug-Bond into a Swarovski-esque crystal...
arctic fox...

buck tail...

Acrylic assumes and transmits the flavour of predominant underlying colours...
a little "dark" goes a long way...
The translucent properties of the mylar plays tricks with light and offers some curiously phlashy highlights...
arctic fox and crystal flash...
