I put my son on the plane out of LAX for a three week trip back East to MA...here are some patterns I tied up for him - to use on the Farmington and Swift Rivers while he is there:




SIMPLY REDs...(And, PURPLE)...

HOOK: Gamakatsu C12-B, #18-# 20
THREAD: Tiemco 16/0, Black
BEAD: 5/64 Black Nickel, (4 wraps 0.10 lead)?or Tung
ABDOMEN: Red Krystal Flash
RIB: Wapsi, Silver, xsm
THORAX: Spirit River Iridescent dyed peacock eye, Purple



PALINISTA ... (apologies to EVA PERON)

HOOK: Mustad C49S, #18 -#20, Daiichii 1130, #18-#20...used above
THREAD: Gordon Griffith?s 14/0, Red, White
TAIL: 1 Strand Pearl Krystal Flash
ABDOMEN:White Thread
OVERABDOMEN: Hareline Stalcup's Micro Tubing, Blue
RIB: Wapsi Silver Wire, X-SM
WING: Grizzly Krystal Flash Black and White, 3strands, cut short
THORAX: Arizona Diamond Hair Pearl Green or Blue
BEAD: Silver, 5/64 or 1/16



PEACOCK BLUE MIRACLE MIDGE...

HOOK: TMC 2487, Daiichi 1130, Mustad c49s, #18-24
THREAD: Tiemco 16/0, Black
ABDOMEN: Wapsi Ultra thread, 70 Denier, Peacock Blue
RIB: Lagartun, x-fine, copper



YELLER FELLA... NYMPH

HOOK: TMC 100 SPBL, #14-#16, Daiichi 1560, #14-#16
THREAD: Wapsi Ultra 70 Denier, Dark Brown, Yellow
TAIL: Bronze Mallard Fibers
ABDOMEN: Natural Pheasant Tail
RIB: Wapsi, Fl. Orange, SM
THORAX: 1/3 Rusty Squirrel, 1/3 SLF STD. Cinnamon, 1/3 Fire Star, Lemon Yellow
WINGCASE/LEGS: 6 Strands Black Krystal Flash
BEAD: Silver Tungsten, sized to hook



HARVESTER MIDGE, Olive...

HOOK: TMC 2499 SPBL, #16-#18 or TMC 2488 #16-#22 or TMC 2488H # 16-#20 (The pattern, as offered by Umpqua, is tied on the first hook)
THREAD: Uni, 8/0, Lt. Olive, laid flat ( twist bobbin counter-clock wise )
RIB: Wapsi wire, Black, X-sm
BEAD: Tungsten, Black, sized to hook



S. WHIPLASH...

HOOK: TMC 100SPBL, #14-#16, Daiichi 1560, #14-#16
THREAD: Wapsi Ultra, 70 Denier Black / Ultra, 70 Denier Fl. Fire Orange
TAIL: Coq De Leon Fibers, Medium Speckled
RIB: Wapsi, Ultra Wire, Hot Orange, SM
ABDOMEN: Pheasant Tail, Black
THORAX: Spirit River Squirrel Blend, Natural Grey (35%), Arizona Diamond Hair, Rainbow (35%), Ice Dub, UV Purple (30%)
WING CASE/LEGS: Grizzly Krystal Flash, Black/White
BEAD: Silver Tungsten, sized to hook



HARVESTER MIDGE, Rusty Brown...

HOOK: TMC 2499 SPBL, #16-#18 or TMC 2488 #16-#22 orTMC 2488H # 16-#20 (The pattern, as offered by Umpqua, is tied on the first hook)
THREAD: Lagartun, 74 Denier, Rusty Brown
RIB: Wapsi wire, Black, X-sm
BEAD: Tungsten, Black, sized to hook



RED/ ORANGE PT (BUFFALO JUMP)

HOOK: Daiichi 1560, TMC 3761 , #12-#18
THREAD: Uni 8/0 Brown, to secure tail, rib and abdomen
TAIL: Lemon Wooduck
RIB: Wapsi, Copper/Brown wire SM
ABDOMEN: Red Pheasant Tail fibers...then
THREAD: Wapsi 6/0 Fl. Orange
THORAX: Orange Ice Dub 50%., Nat. Squirrel Belly 50%
WING CASE/ LEGS: Rusty Brown Krystal Flash
BEAD: Silver Tungsten, sized to hook




And YES, flashy hot spots work well on heavily pressured waters...

A great collection of beaded bugs there PT. They would be a really good collection for greyling here in the UK. Greyling usually live in shoals and they will grab what they see before somebody else does.
