Anyone a striped bass fly fisherman? I am on the south shore of eastern Long Island, NY.
Recently the fishing has focused on tiny critters, for example 1/2 inch juvenile crabs. I have used tiny deer hair patterns in the past but this a new direction. Tying a clipped Bi-visible on #6 to 10 hooks using olive and yellow hackle with an olive CDC tail. Fish the fly right in the surface at night on an outgoing tide.

Here in far Southern Maine, Stripers are one of the few reliable catches from May to September. I like that crab patterns of yours and I'm a fan of simpler flies. We do use a fair number of epoxy patterns and, of course, large Pollock, Mac and Bunker patterns - but even with those large "baits", I find myself tying as simply as possible.
Heading North to the lower Kennebec in the AM. Maybe I'll throw some version of that crab...
