What a day!
I had one of those fishing days you can usually only dream of
The day actually started off quite bad with cold northern wind, which was somewhat a disappointment compared to the mild eastern springtime wind that I had expected. We were three guys fishing together and after having probed two of our favorite locations with no result, I decided to go to a third. Since I was riding alone I could just go.
I found this spot very exposed to the wind and with extremely low water, which is usually not very good. But since I had walked to the water I might as well fish. And lucky that I did! I caught sea trout number one at 1:30 in the afternoon, and when I left the spot at 6:30 pm I had a record 16 trout hooked! One of the other guys joined me, which was lucky, because without a witness no one would ever have believed me. I had also forgotten my small camera, so my usual habit of taking pictures of every single fish wasnât feasible. The result was that I lost count! Never happened before on the coast...
For people who fish streams this might not sound much, but for sea trout anglers in the Baltic, such a number is usually something you can only dream of. And they were not small fish, mind you. The average size was just under 45 centimeters or 17-18 inches. The largest one was about 55 cm or 22" and the heftiest one was a 2-kilo steelhead measuring 54 cm or 21".
I released most of them, LDR'ed a few and took some for the pan.
Simply a sensational day.
And all were caught on one single fly.
