Pipeline

If you're a regular here on the Global FlyFisher you will have noticed that the stream of new articles has been quite steady for a while. And judging from our current pipeline, it's going to be like that for at least a little while yet.

Demanding

We have had our ups and downs when it comes to publishing. Since our demands on quality are quite high, it's not like we can whip out new material every second day. Preparing text and images for the site requires quite a bit of time, whether it comes from outside authors or is produced by ourselves.
We get quite a lot of great material from the outside, and even though most of this is top notch with respect to both writing and illustration, it does take a bit of time to read through, structure, prepare images and make ready for publishing. Producing our own entries from scratch is even more demanding of course, encompassing all the above steps as well as both writing and shooting the photos. Add to that tying the flies we feature, and the new fad: video, which consumes even more time than anything else.

Three day heartbeat

All this taken into consideration, it's a wonder that new stuff even finds its way to the front page... but it does. These last couple of months the GFF heartbeat has been nice and steady, and the observant reader will notice that we publish new material about every third day.
Some pieces are major, like Tom Biesot's beautiful reel making article or Heiko Schneider and Carolina Perez' article on Agentinean wolf fish. Others are more modest, and some are just “plain” like the reviews, which are not quite as overwhelming as most articles, but still require some time to watch or read the item reviewed and write up the text itself.
We try to mix these different types of articles to get an even flow of the massive and the modest.

New front page layout

Some of you may have noticed the new front page layout. We now feature the latest article in a larger format, the two that came before that a bit smaller and the remaining articles in the same format that we have always used.
We found that the old layout was underselling the lead stories a bit, and this new way of presenting them will emphasize the latest a bit more.
The layout has been passed down to the second level pages, where two stories are presented slightly larger than the rest. This also goes for the keyword pages, adding a bit of dynamics all over the site.

Pipeline

Internally, amongst the GFF partners, we have long had a pipeline facility, where we could see what was on the way in a manner that looked like it would look when presented on the front page.
This facility has now been developed into a special Pipeline page where you can see what is on the way and when it will be published. As soon as an article is set ready for publishing in our system, it appears on this page. That can serve as an appetizer and hopefully urge you to return to see the newly published articles when they go online.
There are many more articles hidden in the system as half finished works or mere ideas, but you don't see them.
