Fly Fishing for European Sea Bass

Philippe Dolivet, IGFA-certified Captain, European sea bass fly fishing specialist, welcomes you aboard his specialized fly fishing skiff to discover the magic of the pristine waters of the Bay of Morlaix and the Roadstead of Brest.
The rocky estuaries and coastlines of the Finistère region of the north-easternmost portion of French Brittany are a haven for travelling anglers targeting sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) on fly.
The shallow waters are perfect for fly fishing tactics, chasing this merciless predator and great game fish. The hundreds of acres of very productive water can be accessed with a specialized seaworthy fly fishing craft,
come and discover the subtleties of sea bass fishing with fly gear, on your own or with friends.
Sea bass are an outstanding game fish species in their own right and can be found in numbers along the protected
coastline of the Finistère. It represents a unique concept with upscale service for an unforgettable experience.
In saltwater, my guiding operations involve a “flat type” boat powered with a 40 hp 4-stroke outboard engine. The powerful trolling motor (80 lbs of thrust) allows for very discreet approaches. The flat-bottomed hull and the shallow draft allow great access to shallow water, every now and then home of big bass. My guiding activities are focused on the best tides for fly fishing (tidal coefficient, high tide/low tide hours and moon phase all coming together) from early June to late October. Fishing is possible earlier or later in the season, but the weather conditions are often a limiting factor to navigation and fly casting.
Optimum fishing conditions match with a warming of surface water above 14°C (57,2°F) and an increase of saltiness, bringing massive schools of baitfish (pilchards, sardines, sand eels, mackerels, sand smelts, scads) in the bays and estuaries, followed by huge numbers of bass of all sizes.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
