More on tying with hen hackles
A simple to tie but very effective soft hackle pattern. The Gray Hackle Peacock has taken trout for me in a wide variety of circumstance. A grizzly hen saddle supplies the necessary hackle for the fly. Some folks will use red wool, floss, or other material for the tail, but I prefer the barbules of a bright red hackle. Note the sparseness of the hackle and the length of the barbules in relation to the hook shank.
