Hare's Ear Bug

Fished actively over sea weed and its likely to be mistaken for a gammarus. Same thing in a lake. Dead drifted or fished using a lift in a stream, it looks like a tumbling scud or cress bug or even a hatching caddis. What the fish think, I don't know, but it's a fact that they find it edible.

The Underwater World of Trout

It's been a long time since I spent any time in a classroom studying the concepts of refraction - how a wave (in our case a light wave) changes direction as it crosses the boundary layer between two different media. In "Trout Vision and Refraction" - the third entry in Ozzie Ozefovich's "Underwater World of Trout" series of DVDs - we get a much deeper understanding of the importance of air/water boundary.

The bad beginning

German Kai Nolting caught his first sea trout in his second cast for this silver bullet of the ocean. It would take three years before he caught the second one! In this article he thinks back and analyzes why this happened and draws some conclusions that may help others be a bit more lucky.
