Understanding the Turmoil of Tube Flies

Tube flies are flies tied on a tube rather than a hook. But putting it that simple is almost a crime, because tubes have evolved dramatically over the last few years, and bottles, rear tubes, Shomakov tubes, FITS tubes and all sorts of new systems have seen the light of day.

The Omoe Brush

This fly is originally meant to be an imitation of a small clamworm like a small Nereis, but can be considered a generic pattern more than an exact imitation of these polychaetes. It takes its vantage point in the red body feathers of the Golden Pheasant.

The Underwater World of Trout

It's been a long time since I spent any time in a classroom studying the concepts of refraction - how a wave (in our case a light wave) changes direction as it crosses the boundary layer between two different media. In "Trout Vision and Refraction" - the third entry in Ozzie Ozefovich's "Underwater World of Trout" series of DVDs - we get a much deeper understanding of the importance of air/water boundary.
