Since the winter has covered most of the coastal water with ice here in the Baltic and fishing is near impossible, I have taken a walk in an area near Copenhagen, where a stream usually attracts large sea trout during the winter. It's no spawning stream and there's no fishing in the stream, but as you will hear, the place is interesting, and fish will gather here to find fresh water to help them tolerate the cold saltwater in the ocean.

Images for this day's podcast
Fish! ...from last year, that is... - This image is from mid-December last year, before the winter kicked in. I\'m standing on the sluice photographing right where the hole in the ice is on the other pictures. None of these fish are smaller than 3-4 kilos or 6-8 lbs!

Frozen stream - This slowly running Danish stream has porridge ice on the surface.

Sluice and grid - The stream has been closed off from the sea by a large grid. Fish and birds seem to be able to pass through, though
Sluice and grid
No fishing - The sign is not really necesarry this time of year
No fishing
Heron - Herons are very common in Denmark, even in developed areas.
The sluice - Divus on the sluice - doing what male dogs often do. Notice the bit of open water under the bridge. Birds gather here, and I\'ll bet that you can see fish here on good days. Just not today.

I covered the summer trip to the same area in our Blog.

Your second podcast was soooo cool. Sitting in the evening in Southern California, listening to your descriptions, brings up memories of my Baltic Sea days!

Keep up the good work, it might not always be perfect, but it is different and makes my time spent on your website worthwhile.

Dear Martin,
I like the Podcasting very much. I listen to it on my computer with the pictures in front of me. I live in Holland (in the north province Friesland) And also here is every small water frozen. Although we haven't much trout in this area, I like to fish for roach with the flyrod.
