Material shopping

Why are synthetics so ridiculously expensive?

This episode
Since it's been freezing like it was winter the last week or so--maybe because it is winter--the fishing has been dead slow. I took my 15th and 16th skunked trips in a row this weekend, and I'm probably going to give up fishing ang start playing golf in stead.

Nah, just kidding!

What to do? Go shopping like any sensible person would do. I went out and bought a few materials, but only a few, because they are sooooo expensive. This is what I'm talking about today.

All I bought - Not much of an anti-depressive shopping spree here. Just two things: a pen and some cactus chenille.

I am just getting started to tie flies and have VERY few materials. I only have the materials to make wooly buggers in brown and black. What are your suggestions for materials to buy to get further into fly tying? I live in western new york and live near a stocked brook trout stream. What are your suggesstions?

because of the rise on bird skin prices, if my dad finds a dead, fresh bird, He brings it home and I get to keep the feathers. It saves me and him some money.

I agree that the prices are outrageous. I've searched the net a found a couple of good places. First for dubbing, flash, artifical hair fly tyers dungeon - flashbou equivalent for $1 a hank. Got some links to other things. Then there's ebay for fur, and bird skins. Got to shop and be willing to wait but it works. Just got a hungarian partidge skin for $15 total (cost plus shipping) a savings of about $10-$12.
