Canadian Jan Normandale's monthly columns

Jan has been a member of Trout Unlimited Canada and a flyfisher for over 20 years. Currently he is a National Director of TUC. He has an understanding non fishing wife Markie and 2 children, Jon and Lisa who both fish sometimes. Jan lives and works in Toronto, Canada. He fishes primarily for fun.

His trout adventures have taken him to England, Holland, Italy, Canada and the USA. His collection of fly fishing "stuff" and books is the source of much humour in his family and with friends.

Tigerfish from my Verandah

When you speak to old timers about fishing for tigerfish on the Zambezi River they will tell you of driving along dirt roads, cutting a path through the forest to get access to the river. Lions still running wild, and while they fished elephants chased anglers away from the bank. This is not how it is today.

The Great Lakes Irish Invaders

Bob Kenly takes a turn with some tubes from the Canadian Tube Fly Company and converts a traditional Irish fly into something... let's just say not as traditional. So Chris's Irish Shrimp turned into Great Lakes Orange, a steelhead pattern tied on a tube.

Martin's Mundane Sand Eel

Sand eels are very common in most waters around the world. This is a very simple flatwing style sand eel that can be tied easily with very few, common materials, and make a great imitaion that is easy to cast on a light rod.
