Preben Torp Jacobsen, introduction

A fascinating fly pattern has developed into an even more fascinating family of patterns

Prepen Torp Jacobsen passed away on March the 12th 2004.
He will be greatly missed.

His influence on Danish flyfishing and flytying cannot be underestimated.
He was indeed the Grand old Man amongst Danish fly anglers.

We are honered that he wanted to contribute to this site.

Drawing of Torp Preben Torp Jacobsen is one of the few internationally known fly tyers and fishers from Denmark. He is somewhat a living legend, and a person that most Danish and many foreign fly fishers will know. Torp, who has written several now classic books in Danish on the subjects of fishing and tying a fly, recently published a book in English - "Flies from the Flyleaves of my Diaries" - in which he tells about people and flies from a long life with fly fishing.
Having material from Preben Torp Jacobsen on these pages is an honor. I'm thankful that he wants to participate and thankful to Sĝren Glerup who established the contact.

Flatwings

One style of streamer that is very effective here in Maine in the smaller casting sizes, is the flatwing streamer. The feature that defines this style, the flat wing, normally consists of a flank feather from some species of duck tied flat on top of the hook, instead of in the classic "upright" manner that the classic New England Streamer patterns specify.

Hyperclomplete guide to fly tying

There are many intended uses for this guide, namely as reference to ensure you have a fairly complete compendium as to what you will need to get started in flytying or to use when dropping the perfect holiday gift hint. But more importantly, it is meant for the budding fly tyer, in hopes that the years of wisdom gained through trial and error from myself and my tying buddies will steer the newcomer down the right path

Hooks break

Hooks do break occasionally. It's a typical error when night fishing: you trust that everything is OK at the business end and just cast away
