Hit 'em Again Doc!

Nobody intended to make a sequel to Doc of the Drakes. It was a coincidence that Silver Creek Outfitters cameras even ended up on the water with Pete and Doc again this past summer. But the hyper-enthusiasm and sincere nature of SCO guide Pete Wood draws attention so easily. Equally engaging is Dr Robert Franklin, who at 85 had been on an incredible journey over the prior 6 months, persuading a panel of neurosurgeons to perform a rare brain stimulation procedure to treat debilitating symptoms he suffered from Parkinson's Disease.

Bending the Big Sky

The Ice Out "Shoot Out" video competition in Bozeman, Filmmakers had two days to shoot, and one day to edit. The live audience at the event voted our film "Bending the Big Sky" 4th.

Winter In The Valley

It's almost New Years for trout in the Big Wood and other area waters. Another split or two in the pec fins, a few dozen new spots on the back and maybe even another inch or so between the tail and the nose. The fishing season has come to a close on many rivers now as wild trout around here are begin to spawn. A few months from now when anglers return to the water again over Memorial Day weekend, the dark timber of the valley's north slopes should be free of snow and greening with grass.

It was a decent winter to be a fly fishermen here in the
valley. Many days over the past months provided conditions even the dry flies found acceptable, and also a few days when the water stayed just warm enough to help fly line flow through the guides and not freeze. Plenty of sturdy rainbows and also a few browns came to hand for a quick pit stop and release. We appreciate these fish, and feel a sense of pride call these trout locals, and call this place home.

Big Brown Bugs

Showing up unusually late this summer, the Brown Drake hatch on Silver Creek is a must fish/see event in the West. Visit us next year and experience it for yourself! But be ready to wait, this year it was 3 weeks into June...
