The Woody Wacker
This very simple but effective lumo bodied trout fly is tied using the breast feathers of a native bird of New Zealand, the PUKEKO... Lucky for us they are abundant, however because they are native to NZ, we prefer to use road kill...You can find PUKEKO in swampy areas, for me around the Broadlands / Reporoa area.... We have used Weka breast feathers from the Chatham Is, and other similar shape feathers with as much success, however, we have noticed the trout find it hard to resist the NATURAL DARK BLUE in this beautiful feather. The Woody Wacker
Tail: Red Wool
Wing: 3-4 PUKEKO breast feathers
Cotton color: Black
Filmed at studio42 in Tapuaeharuru (somewhere near Taupo) NZ.
