One of those days

Some days - even fishing days - just won't come out right

I had planned to go fishing again today. With my wife Birgitte and assorted fishing friends, who all wanted to pursue the escaped fish farm rainbows in our local waters.

The wife and I were at a 50 years birthday party last night and there were no plans of being early birds. Just sleep in and leave when we felt like it. We were going to coodinate with the rest of the guys and save ourselves going in too many cars.

No reason to say that this morning was all hell: we slept late, stumbled around packing - most of our gear for the first time this season.
Grabbing rods and reels, both spinning and fly gear, Birgitte finding her wet suit, mask and fins because she also wanted to snorkel, brewing coffee, making tea, constructing sandwiches, dunking cameras into backpacks and altogether creating a totally confused mess.

At the same time we were trying to work out the logistics of a party that felt like it was dozens of people coming from all corners of the world. In reality we were talking five people including ourselves. Nevertheless the phone rang on end and we were desperately - but in vain - trying to keep down the number of cars.

At long last Birgitte and I decided to just go. That was when I discovered that I couldn't find my wallet! With drivers license, credit cards and fishing license!

After 15 minutes Birgitte located it under a stack of papers in my basement office and we were ready... except that my license was not in the wallet!

I decided to poach!

And that was not the only thing:
It rained and Birgitte forgot to bring a jacket. And in a party able to equip an army, no one brought a spare.
And she spin fishes and I had grabbed a 12'6 8-9 wt. two hand salmon rod in stead of her spinning rod.
And her underwater photos of tens of thousands of schooling fry were blurry and useless.

...and so on and so on...

Need I mention that we didn't catch any fish?

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
