Galdralöpp variant

Ívar's Fly Workshop

Here we will be tying the dry fly Galdralöpp by Jón Aðalsteinn Þorgeirsson. It's right to mention that this is how I tie the Galdralöpp fly and it's slightly different from the original pattern by Jón Aðalsteinn. Both pattern works out great.

The Galdralöpp fly is an excellent option for stream and creek fishing and works great fished upstream. The fly catches mainly brown trout but I've caught sea run trout on it as well but that's not common at all. The fly is suppose to be dressed originally with just black wool for the body but that creates a lack of buoyancy so that's the reason why I'm using dub for it. The dubbing material has much better buoyancy that the wool has. If you are a brownie angler this fly Galdralöpp is indeed worth to have in your boxes in the size of #10 - 16.

Pattern the way I tie the Galdralöpp fly:

Author: JAÞ.
Hook: Ahrex FW580 #10.
Thread: UNI 8/0 black.
Tail: Red foam cylinder 6mm.
Body: Black ice dub.
Palmering: Black rooster saddle.
Head: Black.

The original pattern by Jón Aðalsteinn himself but dropped me a line with the original pattern:

Hook: 10-16 wet fly hook.
Thread: Black.
Tail: Sybai foam cylinder.
Body: Black antron yarn.
Palmering: Black rooster saddle, sewed down with the thread in the other direction.
Head: Black.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
