Scruffy black midge
Simple but very well tied little midge style buzzer with a thread body and a dubbed thorax. Most likely tied by Paul Slaney and given to me when I visited Wales in 2004.
Fish Art for the Stars
Brad Pitt’s New Movie Ad Astra has a Connection to Fly Fishing - and A Fly Fishing Painter’s Well Traveled and Well Lived Life
Read the story here.
Bibio style wet fly
This is a hopper/bibio style fly, most likely tied by Paul Slaney, and given to me during a stay with him in 2004.
I'm on the air!
Dave Stewart from the podcast "Wet Fly Swing" contacted me for participation in one of his podcasts, and it’s now online to enjoy.
Delicate Emerger
This very small and delicate emerger most likely stems from a visit with Welsh Paul Slaney back in 2004. It's been laying around together with a bunch of other flies, including a handful of different Diawl Bach's tied by Paul.
Mallard Omoe Brush
An Omoe Brush variation that I tied for an article for the site.
Purple Omoe Brush
The fly was tied by me for an article on this site.
Dragonfly Nymph
A beautifully tied dragonfly nymph, which I have fished (I cut off the tippet tag before photographing it). It was located in a box with a bunch of Diawl Bach's tied by Paul Slaney, but I'm not sure this is his fly.
Rusty Rat
This immaculate Rusty Rat was given to me by US tyer Glenn Peckel at the Dutch Fly Fair in 1996 when I met him the first time.
Dull Bream Nymph
A dull bead head nymph, almost a caddis, given to me by Dutch Bart van der Schrieck to use for bream fishing in the river Ijssel in the Netherlands.
Small Bream Nymph
A small, bright and beaded nymph given to me by Dutch Bart van der Schrieck to use for bream fishing in the river Ijssel in the Netherlands. I never fished this one.
Bream Nymph
A bright and heavy nymph given to me by Dutch Bart van der Schrieck to use for bream fishing in the river Ijssel in the Netherlands. It worked like a charm!
Olive Scud
This neat scud I found together with a handful of other dries and nymphs in a small, opaque 8-compartment flybox in my storage. I don't remember where it came from.
No hackle emerger
Another fly stored together with a handful of other dries and nymphs in a small, opaque 8-compartment flybox. I don't remember where it came from.
The magazine image system
Many years ago, in 2006, I bumped into a great and inspiring article written by Harvey Kane on the renowned web developer and web designer site A List Apart.
Back when I read the article, I thought...
Bushy Dry
This Lee Wulff style pattern has been laying in my storage box together with a handful of other dries and nymphs in a small, opaque 8-compartment flybox. I don't remember where it came from.
Float Fry
This fly was given to me by Welsh Paul Slaney during one of the fly shows we participated in together. As far as I know it's meant to be fished floating in lakes, probably imitating a dead fry floating in the surface. The material is painted foam.
Red Frances
This is a commercially tied fly, done by tyers in Thailand at Icelandic Jon Ingi Agustsson's factory. Their flies are all really well tied from premium materials. PS: I had wrongfully labeled the fly a Snelda (Snælda) at first, but it is actually a Frances.
Royal Wulff
This is a commercially tied fly, done by tyers in Thailand at Icelandic Jon Ingi Agustsson's factory. Their flies are all really well tied from premium materials.
Red and Pink Buzzer
An beautifully tied buzzer that's been sitting with some emerges in a small piece of Styrofoam in my storage for many years.
The Magnus and Fred Clan
The classical Danish coastal flies Magnus and Grey Fred have been an inspiration for many derivative patterns as well as hybrids. This is their story.
See all the patterns here
Meeting Magnus
I had known Magnus for many years, the fly being a stable fly in my flybox. But it was only later that I met the man Magnus "live".
Read the story here.
Black and Orange Marabou
This is a commercially tied fly, done by tyers in Thailand at Icelandic Jon Ingi Agustsson's factory. Their flies are all really well tied from premium materials.
Apetizer
This is a commercially tied fly, done by tyers in Thailand at Icelandic Jon Ingi Agustsson's factory. Their flies are all really well tied from premium materials.
Adams
An Adams tied with deer hair wings. I bought this fly together with a bunch of others in the Ridge Pool tackle Shop in Ballina, Ireland to fish for trout in Lough Conn where we needed some high floating dries for the wind swept lake.
These videos will make you a better fly tyer
Renowned fly tyer and tying instructor Wayne Luallen presents a series of short videos, which will help you become a much better fly-tyer.
Read more here.
Yellow Humpy
I bought this fly together with a bunch of others in the Ridge Pool tackle Shop in Ballina, Ireland to fish for trout in Lough Conn. The Humpies did exceptionally well on the dark lake in both red, green and yellow.
Skjern's Fancy Woolly Sock
An Ullsock-variation of the Danish salmon fly Skjern's Fancy or Johannes' Fly (Johannesfluen)
