Fran Betters' Variant of the Picket Pin

Hello all. This is a fun fly! The Picket Pin is a pattern credited to Jack Boehme from Montana around 1919. It was designed as a wet fly but went on to get streamer variations and dry fly variations as well.

Like many classic good flies, Fran Betters adapted the pattern to his color scheme and style to be sold in his shop and to be fished in the Adirondacks.

I first learned of the fly from the blog of Alan Pettrucci, named "Small Stream Reflections". Here is a link to it.

Of course, the Picket Pin is one of those early hair-wing flies that originated in the West. Unlike the Trude...this time a wet fly.

Since there are many Picket Pin videos out there and I love Fran Betters' patterns, I figured, let's do his version.

Enjoy!

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
