Richard Katzman

Richard Katzman resides in the Catskills of the US state New York and ties tube flies for his fishing

If you are interested, you can view my slideshows and my instructional videos on YouTube under Richard Katzman, Catskill Tube Flies and Catskill Hook Flies.

At the time of this writing I have well over a thousand custom flies in every shape, size and specialty for every fish. This includes large flies for fishing in the ocean and great lakes. The rest of my collection is for lakes, streams and rivers. Once you see my flies, I'm sure you will agree that they are very life like and very beautiful. If you subscribe to my YouTube channel, you will be notified each time a new video is posted. I have been making a new type of "fly-lure" that can be used by fly fishermen and Spin Rod fishermen alike.

The first fly-lure that I made, I was able to cast it 65 feet with my spin rod in the back of my house in the snow. I cast this fly-lure 5 times and retrieved it through the snow. The fly-lure looked just as good as the first time I cast it out. This is a truly remarkable new creation. If you have any questions, you can email me at: rikatzman62@gmail.com and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Good luck and tight lines.

Richard has also published in The Catskill Baitfish July 2014 and in The New Fly Fisher online magazine.

Mothballs...

I recently acquired some nice saddle hackle and capes but the previous owner stored them with mothballs. I have kept the material outside for ventilation but the feathers and skin are still very much consumed with the mothball vapors. Before I start using and handling the material I want to get rid of these harmful vapors. Do you have any recommendation on what I should use and the process I should take in cleaning, deoderizing and perseving this material? Thank you.

Simply wash them...

John,

Use water and soap... simple as that. We have several articles on the site about cleaning materials, but this one should be useful in your case: http://globalflyfisher.com/tie-better/washing-your-materials

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
