The concept for the design of the Shucked Up was to incorporate two parts, one representing the ghost of the old nymph at the back and in front of that an abdomen, thorax and wing representing the adult stuck in its struggle to complete emergence. Half-in, half-out, and totally shucked up.

- Run on the thread at the eye and take down to the bend and then back a third of the way up the shank.
- Cut a tapered strip of interfacing, colour with a marker pen and tie in
- Chop up some poly yarn, dub onto the thread and wind a tight ball over the shuck to represent the legs of the nymph.
- Tie in a length of flexi floss and wind in touching turns, tie in and trim off the waste.
- Dub a second ball of poly yarn.
- Tie in two strands of crystal flash in front of the dubbing followed by a bunch of poly yarn.
- Dub on some more poly yarn over the thread wraps.
- Build a small head, whip finish and varnish.
- Trim the wing fibres to length.
