May 31st 1996
It is a strange spring There's still no trout worth mentioning in sight. Amazing! We will soon be half way through the year and the days will be getting shorter, and noone I know has experienced any spring fishing worth mentioning.
Fly Fair 1996
The following report was sent to the flyfishing mailing lists - FlyFish@ and Euro-Flyfish@ - after my return from a most enjoyable Fly Fair in Holland May 1996.
Roman Moser, Austria
Roman Moser is probably one of the best known central European fly tyers and fly fishers. He has made his home river the Traun in Austria famous all over the world through his videos and his company the former Traun River Products - now called Roman Moser Innovative Flyfishing Products. He makes his living from developing and selling new fly tying materials and making videos. He is probably best known for his Gold Head fly - the first fly pattern ever to feature a brass gold bead as a head. He was featured in Judith Dunham's book The Art of the Trout Fly"
A day of fun and fly tying
Once again I've had the distinct pleasure of being together with fly tyers of the absolute elite. Henrik Strandgaard - a reputed Danish salmon fly tyer - had again set up a fine arrangement featuring two US tyers: Steven Fernandez and Marvin Nolte. Both ought to be well known, but let me introduce them to you anyway:

That #?%&/# wind! This spring has been a strange one. I have never experienced anything that unstable. We are well into May and it's still very cold and windy. The predominant wind has been North East for almost since new year - and NE is about the worst wind you could want in Denmark. We miss the mild Southern winds that bring up warmth from central Europe and makes water flow the right way. Garfish are still in
A.K.'s Fly Box
A.K. should be fairly well known. The term 'production fly tyer' is very suitable for him. He counts his flies in hundreds of dozens and has before demonstrated his ability to write books about this kind of tying. In this book he reveals the contents of his own fly boxes. They contain a lot of brown trout flies - no salt water patterns, no poppers, no bass flies. There are a few hoppers and ants, but apart from that it's mayflies, stoneflies a caddises.
