Iron Lotus (PMD)

Another super effective Lance Egan fly pattern that catches fish like crazy! PMD nymphs become very active in rivers and streams during most of the summer and early fall. Trout fill themselves on these critters day after day which makes the PMD Iron Lotus nymph such a valuable nymph fly pattern. A few years back Lance told me of the unique design of this fly which includes its thread body covered in a hard clear finish. This helps the fly sink at a quicker rate because of its streamline design and lack of appendages. It is tied with lead wire and a tungsten bead which also helps the sink rate and its ability to stay down in the water column once it gets there. That is partially why it is one of the most effective Czech Nymphing flies. Another advantage is the durability of this fly as it holds up very well to the pointed teeth of trout. I have quickly become a huge fan of this fly since it continues to catch fish after fish. The BWO variation is also deadly and fairly simple to tie as well. The AK Way - Amazing Alaska Fly Fishing!

This is a fly fishing film that consists of the beauty of Alaska mixed with a lot of underwater footage of amazing salmon schools. Our flies pass by them, and often times they are seen peeling away to chase our presentations. It was fun to capture this on film! Alaska is a very special place for fly fishing. There is a broad myth that many of the salmon caught in Alaska are snagged. This has not been my experience during any of my three trips there. I filmed this in 2014 when a few of my brothers and I took an Alaska fly fishing trip that had many memorable moments. It was a good salmon run that year for the chum and silver salmon. We visited our good friends the Butlers and caught many amazing fish each day. Alaska fishing has never been so much fun for me. One of my favorite accomplishments of the film was by my brother Brad. He had never been fly fishing before, and after only a few days he was casting like he'd been doing it for year. He is the guy in the film double hauling and throwing the tight loops. I teamed up with Rainy's Flies on this project. They have a great selection of flies for all species of salmon. They produce great quality flies that don't fall apart. Tungsten Surveyor

Tungsten Surveyor on a jig hook - Fast, Easy, Most Productive Nymph EVER! For the past five years or so this Lance Egan creation has been one of the top producing nymph in my arsenal. For the past year we have been fishing the Tungsten Surveyor on a Syndicate jig hook which has been dynamite! When it comes to easy, quick to tie, and extremely effective flies the Surveyor nymph is on top of that list. Egan's Surveyor is extremely effective Euro Nymphing, Czech Nymphing, and even indicator nymphing. The additional weight from the tungsten bead helps this pattern get down to the fish quickly and helps it stay low in the feeding zone longer during each drift. There are many benefits of fishing jig nymphs including better hook ups primarily in the top of the mouth, better holding power once a fish is hooked, and fewer snags since it rides hook point up which results in fewer lost flies. Pay Czech

Woven Nymph Fly Tying Instructions. At first I was intimidated to tackle a technique that was fairly new to me known as weaving flies. The final nymphs I had seen other tyers produce had amazingly intertwined bodies with a dark top and light bottom that looked fishy as can be! Derek gave it a shot early on and produced some sweet looking patterns that ended up catching decent numbers of fish on our local rivers and streams. I soon gave in and decided it was time to weave. I made the most interesting observation after only a few dozen flies, this technique is actually pretty easy and can make for some great looking bodies on flies. This particular pattern incorporates the techniques used by many others in the past, but we feel that the combination of colors, and the particular materials used make this nymph special. This is a deadly pattern used while Euro Nymphing or Czech Nymphing. It can also be fished under an indicator. The Pay Czech has also been picked up by Rainy's Flies to be sold in fly shops worldwide starting in 2016. Scudmarine Steelhead Nymph Pattern

Learn to tie a very effective steelhead nymph pattern. It may not be well known that pink scuds catch steelhead like crazy, but it's true. I've developed this pattern over the past four years and I'm very confident in it when fly fishing for steelhead. It is easily one of my top three steelhead nymphs. It is easy to tie, looks good in your box, and catches fish. Devin Olsen from Fly Fishing Team USA turned me on to fishing pink scuds for steelhead. He is one of the world's best fly fisherman and you can check out his blog http://www.tacticalflyfisherman.com/ for more great tips. The intro of large steelhead all caught nymphing is a fun twist that I decided to add to my last few videos. Leave a comment and let us know what you think! Thanks for watching!
