Bob,
The new tube fly book is awesome! Very inspiring. I have spent the last few days reading through it and will fire off a review ASAP. A few other books are in the queue before yours, but it will come eventually.

Martin was the same camera used to take the picture of the searun cutthroat in 2004?

Martin, thanks for the quick response. I was actually wondering about the camera used to take the picture of the searun cutthroat from 2004, sorry thought the comments were picture specific.

The Sunray Shadow is a fantastic fly when fished on a floating line riffle hitched or made with a hole in the side to make it skate across the surface! The salmon of the Northern rivers of the Russian Kola Peninsula love it! that way.Very visual takes.Fish it with a downstream mend to speed it up as well.

The image of me kayaking was shot with a Nikon F5 using slide film.

It's a great pic, but I would crop off the bottom, trying to maintain the thirds rule...

Very nice fly and I believe it will work too. Very interesting the hackling style!

Hi
South Africa is a safe country. There are areas that are more risky, like certain areas in some of the big cities, but the outdoor no problems. Fantastic scenaries, beautiful fishing, friendly people. There are a couple of articles and pictures in the Gallery on GFF about South Africa. Read them and you will book your plane ticket

Wow, didn't know South Africa is so beautiful!
Is it safe (sorry for asking but that's what I just keep asking myself) in SA to be in the outdoors?

Martin, we fished the Tønjum beat of Laerdal last summer and Mark Brooks (Ray Brooks son) showed us around and advised us about which flies to use and how to fish them. Needless to say Mark more or less only fishes the Sunray but slightly different to his fathers original (published?) pattern namely blue/black and not white/black. Also the Sunray's he uses on Laerdal are enormous - at a guess I would say 20-25cm long!! Mark ties them on plastic tubes and fishes them on a sink-tip line. Last season he took one 17.4Kg salmon in Tønjum and a monster of 19Kg higher up on the last day of the season - both on a ....
... blue Sunray.

Jack,
The fact box in the beginning of the article refers you to Tiemco's web site, and from there you will have to find a dealer or distributor in your country. We have no intentions of providing sources for every product we mention in every country we have an audience in. That would surely keep us busy! You will notice that we try to provide a source or a way to find a source for every single product we mention.
Tiemco is an International brand name and available in most larger tackle shops, so ask for this wing burner at your local flyshop, and I'm sure they can get it for you.

Again another tool but no discussion of where to purchase if one wanted it. My biggest issue with almost every story I've read over 60 years of tying is that the author fails to source for his audience.

John,
Check out the chapter "On you own" in this article. It tries to cover your options when moving around along the beaches without a guide.

The Cracker fly is one that I grew up fishing in the Withlacoochee River and the Florida Gulf Coast in the Tampa Bay area. It is a very good Redfish fly that many of the old guys wading the bay would use when I was a child. I was somewhat offended that the term Cracker was represented as describing the poor whites of Florida. My family has lived in Florida for many generations. Crackers were so named because they were cattle men who cracked their whips as they drove cattle. Tom Williams, Lolamy Fly & Tackle Co.
