Trophies on Display
Tomorrow I'm going to the NY State Fair with my wife, primarily to see a concert, but also to sample the wonderful food and take in some of the fun. We don't get away much, just the two of us, so it's...
Framing flies
I have for a long time wanted to do a GFF article on framing flies. By many referred to as shadow boxes.
I have framed quite a few flies in my time, and often use the finished frames as gifts. The ...
Soccer Practice
Yesterday was my daughter's first soccer practice. As fun as it is to watch a handful of 6-year-olds running around and kicking the ball in a semi-organized fashion, I found my mind wandering after a ...
New Rods
Soon to be published - a review of the Lamiglas Appalachian series. I was sent a 7'6" 3pc 4wt to build and test - and I must say it is simply terrific. It is absolutely light as a feather and as crisp...
Chill in the water
I just returned from a short swim in the sea close to where I live. It was cold! And that is good - not for swimming, but for fishing.
My wife, Birgitte, and I have taken these small excursions for...
Chill in the air
A chilly weekend, by this year's standards. I can almost hear the fish staging off the shore in Lake Ontario, waiting for their chance to make a run through the gauntlet. I missed it completely last y...
All work and no play
What kind of life is this? It's Sunday, the sun is shining and the wind has calmed down after a few days of hefty weather.
And what am I doing?
Working!
It's too much!
I want to go fishing! ...
Iceland
As I sit here running through a cd sent from Icelandic friend Jon, I remember my all too short trip to that beautiful island this summer. 3½ fishing days was all we could squeeze in in a very tight pr...
New Zealand
Just watched a feature on New Zealand flyfishing on Danish television.
That to top my recent run through a couple of videos entitled "New Zealand Trophy Waters" submitted for review by Bruce Masson...
Fishing and Cameras
This year, I have not taken a camera with me while fishing. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
Good: I was fishing the Beaverkill ealier this year and fell backwards over a rock and found myself...
A Man May Fish
A friend gave me a copy of TC Kingsmill Moore's "A Man May Fish" yesterday. Well - it arrived in the mail yesterday afternoon after a trip across the Atlantic. I like surprises in the mail as much as ...
Catskill Flea Market
The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum is having it's annual Flea Market on August 30th. I wish I could make it this year, but no go. For anyone interested, details can be found here:
Annual ...
Orvis CFO Discontinued?
I've heard that Orvis is discontinuing it's famed CFO series of reels. I've seen some being dumped by fly shops at less-than-ebay prices. What a shame. I've always been of the opinion that the CFO is ...
Chub and bream
I have always thought that if it can be caught on a fly it's worth fishing for. Come to think about it: it might even be worth to fish for if it can't be caught on a fly...

Fun with slides
Just ended e great evening with a few fishing friends looking at old and new slides. Shown on a screen in a dark room with a real projector. Yes, some people still do that!
We went back and forth i...
Denver Tackle Dealer Show
The Tackle Dealer Show is a great show, which GFF attended last year and had great fun, met some interesting people and saw some really sweet tackle and fly tying materials.
I wish I could go this ...
Interesting tools
Mike Hogue of Badger Creek Fly Tying announced in his recent newsletter that he is developing a new set of fly tying tools in stainless steel and what have you. I have already mailed him to inquire ab...
Still warm
The summer is not over yet. It is still so hot both in the air and in the water that it is hard to believe that it was ever winter.
But soon the temperature will start falling and the water will be...
Second for the same day
Only 1 hour into developement and it is already taking shape.
First GFFBlog entry
I thought it might be fun to add a new Weblog to GFF. We often have stuff to offer that isn't really adequate for an article, but still can be fun to publish.
A weblog is perfect for the purpose. S...
C&F tube body tool
The C&F extended tube body tool is more than two darning needles in a fancy holder. If you - like Dutch Henk Verhaar - like doing it yourself, this might be worth looking into. The flies tied with extended bodies can become very realistic and still be simple to tie.

River Mandal
”I hate to ask you, but do you want to go salmon fishing for a week?” The voice of GFF partner Partin Joergensen's friend Ole sounded sincere enough and Martin went with him to Norway to fish for small salmon. But the outcome turned out to be a lot larger than standard grilse.

Spring 2003 pictures
Fishing on the Danish coast during the spring months - March, April, and May - can be a true blessing. Many species are about, but particularly sea trout and garfish can be plenty and easy to catch. This small gallery shows some scenes from Denmark this spring.
