Knots and copyright

During a trip for sea trout (one caught while NOT recording), I mused a bit about knots and copyright. These two things stick together like peas in a pod here on GFF, because our knot section with text and drawings is the most illegally copied part of the site. For some reason people seem to think that they can lift article right off our pages and onto their own. I hate it when that happens! We spend a lot of time (and money, actually) on building and running the Global FlyFisher, and you are NOT supposed to use ANYTHING from the site for non-personal use without asking first. You are welcome to link to our site. You can quote within limits and you can print for your own benefit as much as you please. But you cannot lift off material and use it ANYWHERE without asking and getting permission first. In the podcast I get some air regarding this matter, talk about the knots I use and have about 100 strikes (well, many at least) from garfish, but catch none.

Catto, Thank you ...

Catto,

Thank you for this nice comment. Yes, we anglers are indeed more alike around the world than most people think. My numerous contacts with anglers from other countries have always told me that the are more similarities than differences. Mostly we seem to click in a common interest not only for fly fishing.

Mr.Jorgensen greetin...

Mr.Jorgensen greetings from B.C. Canada iv'e been listening to your podcasts and reading your observations on equipment and laughing aloud at the similarities in world view.A love of good coffee, good jazz and good fly fishing seem to go together around the world.Your practical observations mirror many of my own and those of my friends I found this very amusing.Thank you very much for your informative and quality site.

They say that to be ...

They say that to be plagiarised is the sincerest compliment that can be paid to an author, and the compliment is well deserved in your case. The knot section (and the rest of the site too!) was, and I'm sure will continue to be, a great help to myself and other anglers worldwide.

Having said that, I fully understand your annoyance at what is clearly direct theft of your copyrighted work. Please keep up the good work anyway...there'll always be leaders and followers, and you guys are of the former category!

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
