Coastal Trout in the Polar Night.
The first fishing trip of the year always feels special — and every fly angler knows that feeling.
While most people wait until the season is well underway, I try to start as early as possible… right on the edge of what’s even doable. Up here in Northern Norway, we face two months of polar night, freezing coastal winds, sea ice, and brutally tough conditions for any fly angler. But with enough layers of wool, persistence, and a bit of stubbornness, it is possible to spot rising trout — and even get them to take a fly.
In A Flicker of Light, you follow me into the heart of the Arctic winter: ice forming in the rod guides, numb fingers and toes, snow-covered shoreline, and pitch‑black days. But also the rare and beautiful moments where coastal trout rise in the cold, still water to sip tiny krill from the surface. When everything comes together — patience, timing, and the right fly — that first trout of the year becomes something truly special.
This film is about pushing limits, embracing harsh conditions, and chasing the magic of the first coastal trout of the season in one of the most dramatic environments on Earth.

ⓘ ABOUT ME:
I live in Northern Norway, surrounded by rivers, lakes, and endless coastline. Spring is all about chasing sea trout along the Arctic shores, often under the glow of the midnight sun. When summer arrives, I switch to dry fly fishing for brown trout and Arctic char in crystal-clear mountain streams.
Fly fishing isn’t just a hobby – it’s a way of life. Every season brings new challenges, from icy spring mornings to golden summer nights, and I love sharing these moments through my videos.
