High Church

For as long as I can remember, my father, brother and I have been knee deep in the chilly waters of Laurel Hill River on opening day of trout season, along with some close relatives and good friends. I've long wanted to create a film documenting one of these trips, and 2014 was the year that I finally made the effort. Unfortunately I came down with stomach flu almost as soon as we made camp, so I was not able to film nearly as much as I had hoped or planned. I actually thought the project was a complete loss and never even parsed the footage after transferring it into my archive.

I recently went through the footage and realized that I may have just enough to put together a short film with what I was able to capture, albeit far shorter than what I had originally planned. "High Church" is the result!

I look forward to revisiting this idea again in the future and creating something more in-depth with interviews and much more actual fishing footage, more in line with my original plan. But I'm proud of how this turned out despite the difficulties I had filming it.

I hope you enjoy it!

High Church...

Another fishing video with no fish.

Irony?...

Dear Mr. Thanks,

Is that ironic? Do you seriously mean that a fishing video must contain fish? If you think a good fishing trips has to mean catching fish, then you're in the wrong sport my friend!

This isn't porn. There's no guaranteed money shot!

I think this video brilliantly catches the ambiance of winter fishing on an average, crowded stream in the US. If that doesn't suit you, be happy it's free, and move on to the gazillion other videos at hand. Many of them contain fish caught.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
