If I could only carry five bass flies for the rest of my life, these are the patterns I'd choose.
This isn't a ranking of the five "best" bass flies ever tied. Instead, I wanted to answer a different question:
How would I build the most complete bass fly box possible using only five fly patterns?
That meant choosing flies that cover different forage, different parts of the water column, and different fishing situations. Some imitate crayfish, some imitate baitfish, some excel on the surface, while others shine when bass are holding deeper.
