Hello all this is a neat emerger pattern from George Schlotter. I was not able to find much information on him other than he owns or owned a shop in Vermont and also has a killer Caddis pattern.
I was drawn to this pattern because it is a very creative way of approaching emergers with materials most of us have. This is a true pattern in the sense that it is a method but you can use the colors of materials you want to match a specific hatch or even as a generalist attractor.
You have wing which aids in holding the fly in the film and can represent a vulnerable bug that had misfortune during its hatch or it can be hatching or maybe even a spinner.
Hook: dry fly size to match the bugs
Thread: color to match the bug
Body: buggy dubbing - color to match target bug
Rib: none - but I like small wire to help add some weight to the body and flash.
Wing/legs: Hen thigh feather or saddle feather. color to match the bug
You can waterproof the feathers in advance with Watershed, Scotch guard or RainX. When fishing you can apply gel floatants to the wing.
Enjoy!
