The Global FlyFisher has recently been updated to a new publishing system, and there may be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.

Shooting heads design for speycasting

The forums are very quiet

The Global FlyFisher forum has existed for almost as long as the site, and the oldest posts are more than 20 years old. Forums aren't what they used to be. Social media has taken over a lot of their roles, and the GFF form is very quiet ... to put it mildly.
We keep everything online for the sake of history, and preserve the posts for as long as possible, but as you will see, quite a few of them aren't in a good shape, but rely on old images hosted elsewhere, which are no longer available, odd codes from old systems and much more, which can't be shown in a decent way.
But the posts are here, and you can - if you insist - start new threads. But don't stay awake waiting for replies, because they are unfortunately few and far apart.

Hello,
Your blog is very good, even for the articles published a very long time ago this is a synthetic value still valid.
I have a question concerning the shooting lines for fly fishing salmon with 2 hands rod.
When preparing a practical overview for my salmon fly fishing club to adapt shooting heads configurations for 2 hands I have used the Hazel DVD Advanced spey (2008). They have an interesting method for the configuration of fly lines.
1) The shooting is always floating (to build the D loop loading the rod)
2) The length of the shooting is around 2.4 x length of the rod
3) The weight of the shooting is in accordance with the loading weight of the road
4) The length of the polyleader + tippet is 1.5 x length of the rod
So my job is to provide recommendations to choose which ACE floating shooting lines can be ordered and cut to get the perfect match weight / length for rods from 10,5 foot to 14 foot and 6 to 10 line.
The problem is the new profile of shooting lines does not fit the homogeneous lines used 15 years ago. The new shooting lines have a so called “sliding density”, the weight is supposed to be concentrated on the tip. In reality this is not true, making recommendations to cut the ACE shooting line a nightmare.
Do you have alternative suggestions such as shooting lines available by length, rolls of shooting lines etc..
Thank you in advance

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
