The summer in Denmark has been a catastrophe. Fishing is out, fly tying is in.
This summer has been the summer that never really came. We had a week or two of hot weather back in May, but since then it has been cloudy, windy and most of all: rainy. I had decided to go stream fishing after a meeting a couple of weeks ago. This is what the weather was like. I took the direct route home in stead... ![]() We usually fish a lot this time of year, barbecue on the beach and hunt for sea trout, rainbows and mullet in the warm water. But not this year. These days we gather around a table and a hot pot of coffee and tie flies instead. It's not as good as going fishing, but at least it's fishing related. And it dramatically influences the number of flies in the boxes. I am personally stocking up for a trip to Iceland in August and I may also try to get some nymphs tied for the autumn fishing in our streams - once the water levels drop and the water clears up. I may even produce a bunch of flies for the GFF Summit Fly Swap - even though I had planned to skip that and just take care of the logistics. But if the weather continues there may just be time to tie some 30 flies extra for this event. Messing the dining room table while producing killers for the summer season that never came ![]() | |
