Salmofiliac,

I agree with Branislav.

Anything small and bright will do. Small is the key here. Use very small (for saltwater at least) and very sharp wet fly hooks in sizes 10 and 12. The garfish will see them, even in these small sizes.

Turn some orange yarn or dubbing on the hook. Maybe secure it with some ribbing - nylon line is fine - and do little more. Some flash if you are really wild.

Garfish aren't picky or hard to find - but they are very hard to hook.

Many thanks, I'm thinking of using light hooks like Kamasan B800S, but I'm not sure if the shape is o.k. I will make a little orange shrimp imitation, do you think it's o.k.

Hooks...

Use any hook between 16 and 10. Just make sure it's sharp and flashy.
It's that simple.

Salmofiliac,...

Salmofiliac,

Will second what`s been said about small hooks. Also, if you want to improve your "solid hookup-rate" DON`T strike. Use looong, slooow retrieves, and once you feel the garfish striking at the fly, simply keep the slow retrieve going. When you feel "solid weight", then gently lift your rod. This approach has improved my strike/hookup ratio A LOT.

Cheers,
Peter

I use size 10's with hook offset, Yep anything orange works ! Don't worry about patterns as the garfish will more than likely destroy the fly !

They will be here soon in Horsens Fjord. The seatrout fishing in Horsens Fjord is excellent at the moment with lots of silver fish being caught.

Orange yarn...about 5 cm of it tied in circle at the end of a tippet with no hook and a lite set drag! 8) ...and BTW it should bounce on the surface!
