I use it every fishing day, my first choice nymph pattern... and fun to tie. thank you.
Great article!
I have never done any fly fishing but recently I was given a new (still in package from 15 years ago when it was bought) and empty fly reel. A friend at work said he had an unused fly rod which he would give me.
OK so now I have a rod and reel and have to rig it and learn to use it.
I went looking at fly lines today at an outdoor sporting goods shop. I noticed that the spools were marked with 4F, 5F, 6F etc up to and including 9F. What does that coding mean?
Thanks

My goodness, this fly of yours is like what I've tied over 35 years ago, but with a slight difference, and yes it was called a 'caddis' at that time as well..the only difference was the hare's fur, and the name of the body material, and I use of a strip of 'latex' to cover and segment the body.....glad to know that we both think alike..............Wolfie..from Canada.
I don't know maybe someone has thought of this but a simple piece of 1-1/4" ID pvc pipe (pretty cheap at the hardware store) would keep you from having so much rough sanding to do if you wanted a larger o.d. grip. you could simply put the threaded rod and the rings into the pvc pipe and this would align the outside of the rings as well.
Jordan,
Nope. We don't sell anything. We're an online magazine.
I recommend buying a skin at a furrier and cut your own strips.

Please tell me how I go about purchasing this book and any others which are beautifully illustrated and are for sale? Is there a catalogue giving this information?
I am going to S.Africa next year and was wondering if anyone could please advise me on where I can get sea fishing from. Am happy to go for sharks, etc ;o) I will be going in June and July 2010.
Than;s ;o)
Nice fly! As my practice shows there is no use to make such complicated steps. I use only 2 cdc feathers for both extended body and the wing. One disadwantega - it work only for one trout and the is totally destroyed, but for many graylings)
Hey Harry,
I enjoyed your article. I was wondering if I could try to take advantage of some of your fly fishing knowledge however, and ask if you knew of anywhere in China or Southeast Asia where rods are constructed. I'm looking to intern for 3-4 months in a shop or a company that specializes in building bamboo rods. I know this is a shot in the dark but I thought it was worth a shot!
I don't know about Dave Hughes book but after sixty years of fishing I have returned to fishing small local streams. I was bought up on wee burns in my native Scotland where trout were so many to the pound now I fish in New Zealand where the fish of dreams come from. As in Scotland I converted a greenheart rod to 5 ft to fish the burns so I have just completed another wee rod, this time IM6 carbon, 6 feet 6 inches, 6wt with a fast action for the accuracy needed and the large fish. My average for small stream angling is 4lb with one per two trips of three to four hours. My best to date is 7 1/2 lb.
Books on the tecniques required to fish micro water are on a par with hens teeth so if anyone would like to get to grips with a most exciting and challenging branch of our sport this is the sort of book to buy.
Nice work, and I love hand-tying my own leaders,...but the thought of working in Excel to provide for my fly fishing needs is counter to why I fish at all.
I believe that a good option, for the fishermen that we behave correctly and we try to inculcate it to the other ones, it would be to be able to have this logo recorded with thread (it patches) to be able to hit it in our fishing vest.
A greeting and good initiative
Hi, Amazon will only stock the NTSC version of the film, so if you were looking for a PAL version, this may be your problem.
PAL Versions will be on EU shelves shortly, or they can be purchased in Europe from www.flyfishingmasters.se
If you are having problems with Amazon with regard to NTSC, I'd very much like to know. Please drop me a line via our website. Many thanks.

If you're using a inch diameter chunk of burned cork, you might try putting a tail on it. It would great for bass and pike, representing a succulent mouse to them.
In the 1950's our parents would on occasion would visit with Bert and Jackie Quimby. I believe Jackie to be my father's cousin. At any rate, my recollection was that Jackie and perhaps Bert also tied flies for LL Bean in that time period. At this time my father (Edward Davis) was an avid fly fisherman and received many streamer flies from the quimby's as well as from LL Bean himself as we lived nearby and father plowed his driveway in the winter.
To the crutx of the matter, I have my father's fly roll and I have tied a duplicate of every fly therin. However, I would love to aquire one or two of the original flies tied by Jackie or Bert in the original paper and cellophane wrappers. If anyone can help please e-mail me.

Wow great fly!!!!!, Great tie!!!!!! What size foam is that you use? Foam went and got complicated ha ha. Over here in the states, we call chubs fall fish. A lot of people don't enjoy catching them. I think there all a loon. These fish run just as hard as any Salmonidae.
Yellows on fly what more do you want or need to get you hooked to fishing, it is and will if we look after the fish stay the best fresh water fishing ever..
